Understanding the power of community is the key to fully leverage the potential of Python. This was the key insight we gained at PyConDE & PyData Berlin 2024. ⭐️ We had an incredible experience at the event, where we witnessed the Python community coming together to share knowledge, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what's possible with this versatile language. One of the highlights was learning about µDjango, an asynchronous microservices technique presented by Maxim Danilov. It's amazing to see how Django is evolving to support the growing demand for lightweight, high-performance microservices. 🚀 We also had the opportunity to connect with various communities, such as PyLadies and Django Girls, who are doing incredible work in supporting underrepresented groups in the tech industry. It's crucial that we continue to foster an inclusive and diverse community. 💪 Another exciting talk was by Thomas Fraunholz from Smart Cyber Security, who shared insights on the advantages of using containers and DevContainers for tailored development environments. 🐳 Throughout the event, it was evident that the Python community is not just about the language itself, but also about the people behind it. By nurturing and empowering individuals, we can fully leverage the true potential of Python and drive innovation forward. We left PyCon 2024 feeling inspired, connected, and ready to apply the knowledge gained to our work at Divio. A big thank you to the organizers, speakers, and all the fantastic people we met along the way. Until next time! 🙌

By leveraging the strengths of multiple cloud vendors concurrently, companies can achieve unparalleled resiliency, flexibility, and cost optimization. However, navigating the complexities of multi-cloud management can be a daunting task, fraught with challenges such as lack of vendor-specific skills, limited native multi-cloud support, and inconsistent workflows across teams. As the adoption of multi-cloud architectures continues to soar, with 90% of large enterprises already embracing this approach, it's essential to have a comprehensive management strategy in place.👇

Great explanation Sahn Lam! As you mentioned, a typical CI/CD pipeline involves multiple stages, from code submission to production deployment. I'm curious about your thoughts on how organizations can optimize their CI/CD pipelines to maximize efficiency and minimize the time from code commit to production release. In your experience, what are some best practices or common pitfalls to avoid when implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines? Are there any particular tools or technologies you recommend for streamlining the process?

CI/CD Pipeline Explained in Simple Terms The software development life cycle has several important steps: development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. CI/CD automates and connects these steps to allow faster, more reliable releases. When code is sent to a code repository, it starts an automated build and test process. Tests are run to check the code. If tests pass, the code can be automatically deployed to staging or production environments. If problems are found, the code is sent back to development to fix bugs. This automation gives fast feedback to developers and reduces the risk of bugs in production. Difference between CI and CD Continuous Integration (CI) automates the build, test, and merge process. It runs tests whenever code is submitted to find integration problems early. This encourages developers to submit code often and get quick feedback. Continuous Delivery (CD) automates release processes like infrastructure changes and deployment. It makes sure software can be released reliably at any time through automated workflows. CD may also automate the manual testing and approval steps needed before releasing to production. A typical CI/CD pipeline has several connected stages: - Developer submits code changes to source control - CI server notices changes and starts a build - Code is compiled and tested (unit and integration tests) - Test results are reported to the developer - If successful, artifacts are deployed to staging environments - More testing may be done on staging before release - CD system deploys approved changes to production – Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to get a Free System Design PDF (158 pages): https://bit.ly/3KCnWXq

Investing in Open Source - isn't that just giving money away? At first glance, investing in open-source software might seem like a counterintuitive move for a profit-driven business. Why would a company "give money away" to projects and communities that offer their results for free? The answer lies in understanding the broader benefits and strategic advantages that open-source investment can bring. Open-source software is at the heart of innovation in the tech industry, driving the development of new technologies and solutions. By contributing financially and through active participation, businesses can help sustain the ecosystem that fuels their own technology stacks. Investing in open-source: 🌱 Ensures the continued development and improvement of software critical to business operations. 🤝 Enhances the company's reputation within the developer community, aiding in talent attraction and retention. ⚡ Can lead to direct improvements in software that a company relies on, often faster and more tailored than waiting on external updates. Divio has a long history of supporting open-source software. In the past, we were heavily involved with the Django Software Foundation, Read the Docs, and Django Girls, and we continue to invest in django CMS and other open-source initiatives. Our services are built on and strongly reliant on open-source software. Without the thousands of hours of work from the open-source community, we would not be able to provide this level of quality to our customers. Additionally, open-source allows our developers to connect with developers from other companies, seek help online, and discuss bugs and problems openly. We also open-source our templates, addons, linting tools, and more. Our engineering team actively contributes to other projects by opening PRs in python-docker, python-keycloak, keycloak, mantelo, prometheus-proxy, and others. Our support for open-source software, while not always yielding immediate tangible returns, stems from the belief that our success is intertwined with the health of the broader tech ecosystem. What do you think: Is open source a viable business model, or will it be outcompeted by those who focus solely on proprietary software, while taking advantage of the open source ecosystem without contributing back?

🐳 Docker: Understanding Images, Containers, and Dockerfiles In the ever-evolving world of software development, Docker has become a key player in ensuring that applications run smoothly and efficiently across different environments. But with its widespread use comes a common mix-up: What exactly is the difference between a Docker image, a container, and a Dockerfile? 📝 Dockerfile: The Recipe for Your Image A Dockerfile is a text document that contains a set of instructions for building a Docker image. It's essentially a recipe that tells Docker how to create your application's image. The Dockerfile specifies the base image to start from, the application's dependencies, the required configurations, and the commands to run when the container starts. With a Dockerfile, you can automate the process of creating Docker images, ensuring consistency and reproducibility. 🖼 Docker Image: Your Application's Blueprint A Docker image is the output of the Dockerfile. It's a lightweight, standalone, and executable software package that includes everything needed to run a piece of software, including the code, a runtime, libraries, environment variables, and configuration files. Images are immutable, meaning they don't change. When you update an application, you create a new image. They make the perfect template for your applications, ensuring consistency across environments. 🚢 Docker Container: Bringing the Image to Life A Docker container is a running instance of an image. When you run an image, Docker creates a container from it, encapsulating the application and its environment. Containers isolate the application from its surroundings, providing a controlled environment for its operation. They are lightweight, making it easy to start, stop, move, and delete them, offering flexibility and scalability for your applications. Understanding the relationship between Dockerfiles, Docker images, and containers is crucial for efficient software development. With Divio, you can seamlessly deploy these containers to the cloud, streamlining your development process. Find out how: https://lnkd.in/e2hPiUGE
