IED + IKEA = SPAZI DIVERSI. In today's world, how do we experience spaces? What was it like living during the pandemic? Has anything been brought with us since then? Is it sustainable? Is it new? Is it diverse? It's time to move on, it's time for Project Week with IKEA, a mix of design, fashion, and communication by our students at IED Istituto Europeo di Design #ied #iedfirenze #designschool #fashionschool #students #project #SoMuchMoreThanAJob #sust #design #communication #sustainability #ikeaitalia #furniture #interiordesign #spaces

INTERVIEW | ANNA DELLO RUSSO I sat down with Anna Dello Russo for an interview published by Harper’s Bazaar RS, and it was great sound for my ears! Here are the five takeaways: FASHION IS ABOUT FREEDOM. Fashion brings our subconscious to the surface; therefore, it is the ultimate medium for freedom. AGAINST FORCED CONSUMPTION. Phoebe Philo stresses the importance of creating lasting value in fashion by carefully selecting and editing garments, thus opposing the culture of forced consumption. HOW TO CREATE AN ICONIC LOOK. Creating an iconic look involves collaborating with the photographer and prioritizing the overall vision over personal preferences as a stylist. ON THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDYING. Creating a dress requires deep thought and observation. While talent is valuable, structure is essential for survival in the overwhelming fashion industry. IS FASHION DYING? Fashion as a language will never end because, despite the turbulence of the moment, it reflects life. The answers we’re looking for can be found in readings, in music, or looking at the life paths of artists. COMPILATION | TEEN SPIRIT VOL. 1 I’ve compiled about thirty songs that we used to dance to in rock clubs in the 90s. Why thirty exactly? For the thirtieth anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, of course. So, it’s not an exhaustive compilation but quite indicative of what the sound was like at that time. The tracklist includes: Stop (Jane’s Addiction), Drunken Butterfly (Sonic Youth), Sabotage (Beastie Boys), Bulls On Parade (Rage Against The Machine), Spoonman (Soundgarden), Even Flow (Pearl Jam), Them Bones (Alice In Chains), Loser (Beck), Zombie (The Cranberries), Scooby Snacks (Fun Lovin’ Criminals), Give It Away (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana), Hedonism (Skank Anansie), Tonight Tonight (The Smashing Pumpkins), Nearly Lost You (Screaming Trees), Are You Gonna Go My Way (Lenny Kravitz), Pretend We’re Dead (L7), Celebrity Skin (Hole), Song 2 (Blur), Buddy Holly (Weezer), Supersonic (Oasis), Every You Every Me (Placebo), Mrs. Robinson (Lemonheads), Losing My Religion (R.E.M.), Mr. Jones (Counting Crows), Down By The Water (PJ Harvey), Not An Addict (K’s Choice), This Is Hardcore (Pulp), Where Is My Mind? (Pixies), and Creep (Radiohead). Enjoy the compilation on Apple Music: https://lnkd.in/d-H8sxEn By the way, I imagine those unaccustomed to these sounds might find it unbearable, but on the other hand, in the 90s, we didn’t consider music as easy listening but as artistic and cultural expression 😎

KURT COBAIN | REFLECTING ON GENERATIONS Thirty years ago, Nirvana's music echoed the spirit of a generation. Kurt Cobain’s passing marked the end of a cultural revolution for us Gen Xers, a revolution that never truly materialized. Grunge persisted but morphed into a mere style statement - its exact opposite. Nonetheless, the 90s - from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to the Twin Towers tragedy on September 11, 2001 - were an era of profound change. As I wrote in the first chapter of Brand Persona, from that moment on, the yardstick to understand how a generation thinks, mates, dresses, and dies should be called “teen spirit”. Dear marketers, dear fashion brands, dear schools, if you want to understand today’s youth, you must understand their parents, and that’s just us. Photo: @jessefrohman
