This is a great point! The ease of access with FAST channels is definitely changing how people consume content. It will be interesting to see how measurement and attribution evolve in this new landscape.
Soundbite from The TV of Tomorrow Show:
"FAST channels are blurring the lines between traditional TV consumption and streaming: FAST channels are not just available through apps, they're also embedded in programming guides, and that has allowed us to blur the lines much faster. That means more consumer options, but it also means, from a measurement and attribution standpoint, a lot of the technology that we're seeing in traditional TV is coming to connected TV, and in a more-aggressive way."

"Brian, it's not really the TV OS that consumers are buying. They buy the TV they want and whatever OS it comes with, that's what they get. Most don't really care."
BR: Correct. Another overlooked factor?
People have more than one TV in their homes. nScreenMedia has a 2024 prediction that a brand new TV OS will be launched in 2024 -- a good bet!
BUT ... 🔥 Hot Take:
The CTV OS layer has lost relevance, in my view. They had oppty - and the window's not entirely closed. But they're not winning. That's how I'd phrase it.
The CTV OEMs are doing lousy w general platform consumer awareness. (Email me at Brian.Ring@Amagi.com for incredible data on this point.) They're not doing great channel branding either.
>> Can you imagine how furious you'd be if you bought a new TV this weekend to watch the big football game and you COULDN'T get Peacock on the device!? 😱 The AFC game is Saturday exclusively on Peacock! Taylor Swift will be there! Will we see a headline on Monday of furious
#sports fans that bought a new TV & couldn't watch the game? OMG I'd march that thing right back into Target! 🎯 (Prediction for 2024: We'll see a version of this headline soon enough.)
Notwithstanding Marion's *brilliant* post I just happen to think the TV OS is yesterday's battle. When Apple pivoted to the TV+ App, the power shifted forever.
Tubi is the name ppl know. Prime is setting the pace for TV. The OS & CTV OEMs have huge oppty still, don't get me wrong, Roku above all! But IMHO - 2nd prediction is that both media cos & tech behemoths will outplay the CTV OS OEMs in #2024 #FutureOfTV 🥳

Who's winning the TV OS wars?
No one yet.
2024 will bring even more fragmentation with:
- Comcast's Entertainment OS coming to more devices via Xumo
- Sonos rumoured to get into the streaming box business
- ZEASN ready to go bigger after its Foxxum acquisition
- Tivo in the starting blocks for a wider roll out
- Amazon Fire TV breaking free from Google
- Vizio looking to license WatchSmart
CES 2024 opens today.
Sure there will be talks around the latest hardware technologies.
But watch out for the platform partnership announcements.
The money lies inside the TV. Not in the frame.
Fancy getting up to speed on all things CTV beforehand?
