Part of our engineering team just wrapped up an exhilarating four-day hackathon in Berlin, and what an adventure it's been! This hackathon wasn’t just about coding and algorithms. It was also about connection. For some of us, it was the first time we went beyond screen names to handshakes and shared smiles. It’s amazing how face-to-face interaction can create a sense of unity among colleagues. As we unpack our laptops and our memories, stay tuned. We’re excited to share the fruits of this hackathon in our next feature announcement – we think you’ll love what’s coming next 👀

The past weekend was spent on Switch the Pitch hackathon which is a Business x Tech Product challenge organized by Cornell Johnson High Tech Club. This year the problem statements revolved around how to leverage AI to drive social impact! Our team, EthicaLabel.ai, worked hard during the weekend and here are some key takeaways from this experience: 🔨 Choose the right problem for a hackathon: It is crucial to choose a problem statement that is the right balance of challenging and achievable. If it is too familiar, it can be easy but the learning curve won't be great. If it is very challenging, the learning curve will be great but the final deliverable won't be as polished as you'd expect it to be. 🖥 A good demo trumps all: Even if the hackathon's final deliverable is a pitch/presentation, it is better to show up with a demo that indicates that the solution is implementable. It is does not have to be a working application, a design prototype can help the audience visualize your solution and leave a better impact. 🔬 Understand your scope: Our team was all engineers with barely any knowledge on finance and business aspects of a product. Our reference led us to work on certain challenging parts of these aspects which made us spend a lot of time on that instead of on a better demo. Try to understand what you can accomplish well enough in the 2-3 days. Thank you to Charmi Shah, Shivani Chandrashekar, and Teresa Lian for giving their all during the weekend! Thanks to the mentors of the hackathon and the organizing team at HTC for this opportunity! If you're interested in what problem we tackled and the solution, head to Charmi's post here: https://lnkd.in/eH5MC5xK

I'm thrilled to share the learnings and story of Hack Devpost! We recently organized a game-changing hackathon with the goal of finding out what incentivizes and helps developers during hackathons. The story was just published on HackerNoon! 🚀📝 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gTY-FTz4 💡 The article covers: - Why we hosted this hackathon and what it was all about - Overall turnout and engagement - Insights from participants (example: What they chose as the top helpful resource during a hackathon) By leveraging the insights gained from Hack Devpost, we can now better focus our efforts on initiatives that will more likely improve the ease of submission and the incentive to submit which overall is to inspire developers to build great software. I recommend hosting a hackathon for anyone looking for engagement and feedback from developers. Devpost the home for #hackathons

Are you, or will you be, in the Seattle area on Sept 12th? We (Temporal Technologies) are hosting a Hackathon! We'll have multiple judging categories including most "out there" use case, simplest demo of Temporal, or most interesting way to break things. And, of course, prizes!! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gbe8x2Gg Not familiar with what Temporal can do? Well, as a code-first model for building reliable systems, the possibilities are many. We've seen use-cases from infrastructure deployment and/or monitoring, to food ordering and delivery, to vehicle fleet management, to vacation trip booking, and so much more. And if you want to learn _even more_, right after the hackathon is our annual conference, Replay, with TONS of awesome speakers: https://temporal.io/replay I hope to see you there. 😀 -fitz.

During a company-sponsored Hackathon, my team and I built a self-improving, AI-powered knowledge base. The goal is to help reduce the amount of time wasted on developers spinning up and acquiring context with unfamiliar codebases. It analyzes a large group of documents containing necessary context, and answers a user's question based on those documents. The killer feature is that it will automatically reach out via Slack to get additional input and request fixes for low-confidence answers. When any developer gives it a nudge in the right direction, it automatically incorporates that knowledge into its ever-expanding context base. After some time running, it would not reach out via Slack anymore because it would contain the sum of all the context and tribal knowledge in the organization. The future is now, my friends.

A hackathon, but async? Yes! ✔️ Zero commute, cost-effective, convenient, and inclusive! The perks make it even better! 👌 Here's the top advice from Paulo Pereira, our VP of engineering, for running an async hackathon. 🔎 Be prepared and intentional! ⏲️ Take into account the lack of synchronicity. 📭 Be open. Involve people on the fringes. 📝 Plan ahead, and create documentation. 💬 Use a centralized communication channel Have you held an async hackathon with your team? What are your tips for a successful hackathon?

⚖ How to unlock the power of NoCode and automation within an organization while making sure it does not get out of control in terms of security, scalability and costs ? 💡 I had the privilege to host a conference last week about these topics during the NoCode Summit. It was a good opportunity to share the hybrid approach we have implemented at BlaBlaCar, relying on : 🏭 Automation Factories, in charge of designing, building and maintaining automations 🏬 A Automation HQ, supporting Automation Factories by governing, enabling, encouraging the adoption, running and scaling across the company. Want to know more about how we manage to get the best out of these 2 worlds ? Feel free to comment or reach out to me in DM.
Unlocking the secrets of a hybrid approach! 🔑 “We're embracing the potential of NoCode by empowering our teams to create their assets, all while ensuring an optimised and secure tech environment”, shared Jeremie Lebrun our Senior Engineering Manager during his presentation “Citizen-devs vs Centralised IT” at the NoCode Summit. Great job with your presentation, truly in the Share more. Learn more. spirit!👏

Participated in a 32 hours Hackathon, the previous weekend... A team of four superheroes😂 worked on a healthcare web app project.🌟 We had a blast working on our project, from brainstorming and prototyping to coding.🚀 It was a great experience to be among the top 12 teams and we got to present our idea on the stage to a panel of experts and a large audience 👏. Participating in a hackathon was an amazing experience for me🌎. Here are some of the key learnings that I gained from the hackathon: 1. Ideas are important💡. Programming and bringing the idea to life is cool but ideas matter. An idea that serves the society and is feasible is good to go for the hackathon 🙌. 2. Integration of AI becomes really important if the idea is not really unique and impactful at large scale🤖. 3. A good presentation plays a significant role 🎤. 4. Winners are not actually the one who make it in a 32 hours hackathon but they are actually prepared from days or months before 🕒. 5. Doing a prior deep research about all aspects of our idea is important that helps tackle the questions from judges. 6. A 32 hours hackathon is actually a 22 hours hackathon 😂. Want to add something to it? Feel free to share your learnings here. I also want to thank my teammates, my seniors Nirmanyu Thakur , Ved Prakash vishwakarma and Ajay Kumar🙏. It was a privilege working with them and I hope to collaborate with them again in the future 🤝.
