There was a big interest in our article on AI for NDT shared earlier this week. Many people reached out and asked for practical examples how it can be implemented already today. Therefore, we made a quick screenrecording of our COMPASS tool performing automated defect detection (ADR) on casting parts. It is important to note, that these are new images that never have been used to train the AI before. Also there was no parameterization at all. AI was applied out of the box and these were the results. Looking forward to hear your thoughts.

I'm proud to share some fantastic news from the world of electrical power and energy and our AMETEK Power Instruments team! Tony Bell, our Power Line Carrier Product Manager, has been appointed as the new chair of the Power Line Carrier subcommittee for the IEEE Power & Energy Society's Power System Communications and Cybersecurity Committee (PSCCC). This is a well-deserved recognition of his decades-long commitment to the industry. IEEE's mission is to drive technological innovation for the betterment of humanity, and the PSCCC plays a crucial role in advancing scientific and engineering knowledge in the field of electrical power and energy. As the chair of the Power Line Carrier (PLC) subcommittee, Tony will lead key initiatives, including reviewing engineering, operational, and testing aspects related to power line carrier applications within the Electric Power System. Furthermore, he will be instrumental in developing and maintaining industry standards, recommended best practices, and guides. Tony will also oversee multiple IEEE PLC working groups, where he's already playing a pivotal role in revising the PLC Application Guide to benefit our industry. In addition, he's an active member of the working group for the hybrids/line tuner standard. Tony's contributions to the power line carrier industry span over 40 years, making him a true veteran in the field. This recognition signifies not just his expertise but also his dedication to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in our industry to help our customers. NDT tough: 3 questions to Jérémy Fuentes As part of #NDTtough, we are sharing messages from professionals in the non-destructive testing industry. At ECNDT 2023, we had the chance to talk to Jérémy FUENTES, NDT Sales Manager France, Belgium & Eastern Europe at Carestream Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). How did you get into #NDT? I wouldn’t say by chance, but almost. After my studies, I had to do three internships; the first was at a car manufacturer, the second for a company selling windows, and the third in non-destructive testing. The last internship was completely different, and NDT opened a new world for me. I discovered many interesting applications in aerospace, nuclear, defense and so much more, which was perfect for a curious guy like me. What does NDT tough mean to you? In my role as a product and sales manager, a challenge is to provide the right solution for each customer, mainly because their needs are often unique. I have to think creatively for each job and match needs with solutions.  It’s also what I like about this job, though, because delivering the solution is always a huge accomplishment and so rewarding. What was your biggest challenge getting into NDT? Learning to speak the language. When I was new in the industry, understanding the technical language of level 2 or 3 NDT technicians and figuring out their exact needs was hard. Even today, it can still be very challenging to meet with someone and understand their situation and challenges in a couple of hours - it is my main difficulty and also what keeps things interesting. — Want to learn more about #NDTtough?
