The impact of humidity on Partial Discharges in e-motor windings is a challenging and not largely addressed topic. In this recent study the results of an experimentally intensive investigation on the subject are presented. The paper has been published in IET Science Measurement and Technology and is titled ‘Investigation on combined effect of humidity–temperature on partial discharge through dielectric performance evaluation’. Authored by: Yatai Ji, Paolo Giangrande, Weiduo Zhao, Vincenzo Madonna, He Zhang, Jing Li, Michael Galea. Great to be finally back at WEMDCD after four years (and in the UK after 2.5Y)! Looking forward to presenting part of the work we are carrying out at PUNCH Torino on e-motors, and to catch-up with international experts on machines and drives.
Demonstrating our commitment towards a more sustainable mobility means research, study and also present the outcome of the job done. An example? The participation to the 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗘𝗘𝗘 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 – 𝗪𝗘𝗠𝗗𝗖𝗗 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 where Vincenzo Madonna, PhD, Senior Technology System Engineer, is bringing the peer-reviewed paper “𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗩 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀”, tomorrow during the Poster Session 1. This study investigates how material cost fluctuations can strongly affect the total manufacturing cost of various e-motor topologies. The results of the study demonstrate that, in the current market and geopolitical scenario, rare-earth-free e-motors can offer an excellent cost sustainability perspective. The paper has been written in collaboration with PUNCH Torino colleagues: Cesare Maria Meano, Roberto Cossu, Michele Pensato, Ken Friis Hansen, all belonging to the Advanced Engineering Team. WEMDCD 2023 (Newcastle UK), IEEE-sponsored international event, brings together world-recognized experts in electrical machines and drives.
