Giovinazzo

Giovinazzo is a charming medieval seaside village on the Adriatic, with a characteristic marina and a splendid fortified seafront 20 km from Bari.

Through the Arch of Trajan you enter the ancient center, on the right we find Piazza Costantinopoli and a few steps away Via Cattedrale, one of the most characteristic streets of the historic center of Giovinazzo which ends in front of the co-cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta which houses the Byzantine icon of the Madonna of Corsignano, the patron saint.

The splendid Fountain of the Tritons dominates Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. The masterpiece of the sculptor Tommaso Piscitelli (1933) rises majestically in the center of the square, the center of city life.

The promenade offers clean beaches and, at dusk, it lights up with bars and restaurants.

In the rural area, not far from the town, stands the dolmen of San Silvestro. Surrounded by the greenery of the Giovinazzo countryside, the  “San Silvestro” Dolmen is a funerary tunnel construction made up of monoliths from the Bronze Age. In the ancient deposition plan, the remains of 13 individuals were found, along with the fragments of their grave goods.
