Free Cat Crochet Amigurumi Pattern

Crochet a very cute cat with this easy beginner free cat crochet Amigurumi pattern. This cat is such a cute and fast to make gift. It only takes about one hour to crochet. If you make it from sport weight yarn, the cat has a perfect keychain size.

But when you make it from bigger yarn, you will have a very huggable plushie. Is used Super Bulky Chenille yarn and a 5.0 mm hook to crochet the big cat, which is a very soft plush yarn.

I love crocheting small animals for my friends and family. This cute cat was one of my Christmas gifts that I made for my nieces. They love their cats!

Materials:
These are the materials that I used for this kitty. You can replace them with other materials. If you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of this mini cat plushie Amigurumi you can just use a thicker or thinner yarn/crochet hook.

Cotton Sport Weight version 6 cm / 2 inch:
– White catania cotton color – 105
– Brown catania cotton color – 179
– Black catania cotton color – 110
– Synthetic Poly filling

Chenille Super Bulky version 12 cm / 5 inch:
– White Chenille yarn
– Brown Chenille yarn
– Black Chenille yarn
– Synthetic Poly filling

TIP Chenille/Velvet or other similar yarn: The body of the cat might look a bit to oval when crocheting it, don’t worry about it, it will be fine when you put stuffing in it.

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17
– Pins
– Crochet hook size 2.5 mm 4/0 for the cotton or 5.0 mm H for Chenille yarn

Head:

  • Use white yarn
  • Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 3: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24)
  • If you want you can turn this cat into a keychain by sewing two strands of folded yarn in the top and secure it in the inside of the head.
  • Rnd 5: sc in all 24 st (24)
  • Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30)
  • Rnd 7: sc in all 30 st (30)
  • Mark the beginning of round 8 with a piece of yarn if you haven’t already, so you can count the stitches later.
  • Rnd 8: (sc in next 9 st, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (33)
  • Rnd 9-10: sc in all 33 st (33)
  • Rnd 11: (sc in next 9 st, dec) repeat 3 times (30)
  • Sew the eyes over round 8, one between stitch 13 and 14 and the other between stitch 19 and 20. Sew the nose between rounds 8 and 9, the nose is 2 stitches wide. There are 2 stitches between the eyes and the nose.

  • Rnd 12: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times (24)
  • Rnd 13: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times (18)
  • Rnd 14: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times [12]
  • Stuff the head with toy fiberfilling.
  • Rnd 15: dec 6 times (6)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Finish the head by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and weave in the yarn end.

  • Rnd 5-6: sc in all 21 st (21)
  • Rnd 7: (sc in next 5 st, dec) repeat 3 times (18)
  • Rnd 8: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
  • Rnd 9: sc in all 12 st (12)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Stuff the body with toy fiberfilling. Sew the body on the head between rounds 14-15.

Ear 2x:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start sc 4 in a magic circle (4)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (6)
  • Rnd 3: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (8)
  • Rnd 4: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 2 times (10)
  • Fasten off with a slst, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Fold the ear to flatten it, sew the ear between rounds 3 and 8 of the head of the kitty.

Tail:

  • Use brown yarn
  • Rnd 1: start sc 6 in a magic circle (6)
  • Rnd 2: (sc, inc in next st) repeat 3 times (9)
  • Rnd 3-4: sc in all 9 st (9)
  • Rnd 5: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6)
  • Rnd 6-11: sc in all 6 st (6)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Stuff the tail with toy fiberfilling.
  • Finish the tail by taking the last strand of yarn and sewing it through the front loops of every crochet stitch that you made in the last round. Pull the yarn tight to close the hole. Now stick a needle under the hole and weave in the yarn end.
  • Sew the tail on round 5 of the body.
