The barbute has undergone many changes since it first hit the field of war in the 15th century. This Visored Barbuta Helmet expands upon the original design by adding an effective visor, which doubles your protection and makes for an intimidating sight. Originally, the barbute, or barbuta in Italian, was a visorless war helm that was distinctive for its T or V-shaped opening, which gave the wearer a clear field of vision. This helmets design is supremely versatile, offering a few options on how to wear it. You can put it on visor and all. The visor can be opened in two different ways, as it can be rotated up, or one pin on the right side of the helmet can be pulled, allowing the helmet to rotate off to the side (the pin can even be left open, as the helmet features a hook closure for keeping the helm secured in its closed position). You can also pull the pins on both sides of the helmet to remove the visor entirely. The helmet is crafted from quality steel and features an incredible looking polished metal finish. The interior of the helmet features a liner, both for comfort and for making small adjustments to size. It is a full-sized replica helmet that is fully wearable, and when worn, it stands up rather well to the rigors and impacts experienced during the course of LARP combat and light reenactment.

Please be aware that these items are handmade. Slight deviations in pattern, color, and shape may occur.

Be sure to wear this helmet with an arming cap for enhanced comfort and safety. And remember to check out our helmet stands for the best way to both store and show off your helmet with pride!

This was the first item I ordered from this site, and I was a bit worried as what the site would be like. But when this helmet arrived, I was very pleased. It came with an adjustable leather chin strap AND padding on the inside. It’s very good quality; it could take quite a beating in battle. Keep up the good work!

  2. Matthew K.

Fits on my head well, not too heavy either.

  3. Celso S.

The helmet and really very good , but could be more polished . Within the contest I was satisfied

It just arrived. It’s better than the picture shows. It’s incredibly comfortable and works great with my leather gorget; I have full head movement. I love that the visor is easy to remove and replace.

Bought this helmet for my work as an airsoft referee to protect my head. Does very well when combined with the proper padding. However mine arrived with rust on the inside, however I was able to fix this myself, and epoxy in some mesh over the eyes for greater protection. It will dent, but can take the hit before you are injured, as I had a polypropolene hatchet slammed into the helmet’s upper side. Decent helmet, could be cheaper, but usable.

Looks and feels great, love the design of the visor and that it comes with a real leather chinstrap.

I followed the size chart listed, measured my head and everything. I ordered the medium size based on that, but it turned out too small. I recommend getting larger and padding if needed. My head is 23.5 inches. I can get the large on my head with a beanie and chain mail on, and it fits perfectly. I wore it that way for 6-7 hours at a ren fair and never felt uncomfortable. The original medium I ordered had some issues, but Medieval Collectables approved my return/refund. I then ordered the Large. which was perfect. Had no issues, and as I said it fit very well. I was stopped at the ren fair at least 20 times over 6-7 hours with people wanting pictures 🙂 I recommend this item, and Medieval Collectibles as they were honorable with shipping/returns!!! Will come here again next year 😀

Nice looking and menacing helmet. The inside has leather and string to adjust the ceiling and some cheap foam padding is included. The visor will rotate all the way to the back and is removable. I agree with the other reviewer to get a large. My face was already touching sides of the helm in places. I measured about 23.5″ on my head and it fit without the need to use any additional padding or caps. The leather straps on this item are surprisingly good as well but won’t be needed if you aren’t fighting in it. There is a piece of metal sticking out on the visor on the left for holding it down with the hook in case that bothers you.

Beautiful helmet. I have a 24 inch head and the large fits perfectly. With adjustments to the leather liner, my eyes line up perfectly with the eye slits. Don’t throw out the foam padding. If you did throw it out, like I did, you can place a thick rag under the leather liner for extra comfort. The helmet isn’t too heavy so I can wear it all day long.

Amazing helm my, this is my first one so I was a little skeptical. But rest assure it is great quality and all the bang for your buck. I’m going to use it this weekend at the ren fair . Fast shipping helpful customer service and quality work! Can’t wait for my next piece.

The one sent to me unfortunately had a canted eye slot, making the eye holes asymmetrical. Additionally, and I’m not sure if it’s just the oil Epic Armory uses, it was coated in the worst smelling oil I’ve ever seen armor come in. Thankfully medieval collectibles is awesome and I was able to return it and order a helmet I’ll be more happy with

Love the helmet fits well and matches the armor I bought. It’s a little hard to see out of thow but I’ll learn how to move in it.
