Settimo Rottaro, is a small village on
Canavese's hills to 15 minute from Ivrea.
Altitude on the level of the sea: 258m.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME:
Settimo Rottaro is an ancient village
that existed already to the time of the Roman people. In that
period was one "mutatio ad septimum lapidem"
from Ivrea: indeed between Settimo and Ivrea are seven miles and
Settimo was a stopped station as well as Settimo Vittone for the
consular roman way for Aosta. The origin of the first part of the
name it is exactly this.
On the term "Rovedarium" various hypotheses
are formulated: the first hypotheses is that result from Rotari,
"longobardo" king, that the country would have build.
The second to "Ruera", the rail, that is the
furrow left from the wheels of the wagons over a lot walker road;
in the coat of arms of the municipality they figure indeed three
wheels, as well as the acronym of seven in Roman. The third and
last hypothesis derives from the fact that in the village
anciently grew the roveto.
