About the Alstroemeria
Also known as Peruvian Lily, Alstroemeria are beautifully blooming annuals perfect for sunny spaces in the landscape or in container gardens. They’ve been adored for many years by the florist industry due to their ability to last up to two weeks (sometimes longer) in fresh-cut arrangements. Their blooms appear in mid-summer in a wide range of colors including red, pink, yellow, orange, white, and purple, along with some bi-colored varieties. In addition to being fantastic cut flowers, they also perform well in the landscape with plenty of sunlight and well-draining soil.
Though they aren’t considered hardy in Northeast Ohio, some varieties are tender perennials and may return in the right conditions.
Care Notes
Grow in sunny areas, well-drained, amended soil or containers. Feed with a slow release fertilizer, Osmocote® or Plant-tone®. Follow label instructions. Repeat flowering, and often self-cleaning, but trim if leggy or stretched to maintain better blooming and a tidy habit. Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture and protect against extremes of soil temperature.
