Alexandre Mazza’s works have as central theme the research of the viewer’s perspective. It is mainly through objects that the artist confronts its viewers with visual games: what is seen and what one believes to be seeing, what is real and what is imagination. The artist has presented his works in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ), the Arts Centre Hélio Oiticica, in the Caixa Cultural Rio de Janeiro, among others. His works are featured in several private and public collections such as MAM RJ (Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro) and Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR).
With musical training, he worked for 18 years as bassist and composer. Became interested by light and electricity, and in 2008, the artist began to dedicate himself only to what he calls “the multiplication of light”, using various materials such as mirrors, glasses, metal, lamps, acrylic and wood.
One of Alexandre’s major interests is the faith in the image, the courage to believe what we see, but is beyond the physiological ability to see. The main subject of his production, therefore, is the exercise of observation as a thought of the body. Here, we notice that the viewer is expected to be a creator of images during the experiment with Mazza’s work, letting the imagination bewitch the image or its absence, by generating an enchantment for the mystery.
