Over the festive season, fans of opera singer Andrea Bocelli lapped up his latest music video – a “goosebump-inducing” duet of “Holy Night” – with his handsome 26-year-old son Matteo.

“Matteo sounds just like a younger Andrea. What a gift to the world!” one commenter wrote on YouTube. “It’s like listening to the voice of angels!” enthused another.

The song marks the third time the pair have collaborated, following the album A Family Christmas and the single “Fall on Me”. However, Matteo wasn’t always so confident in singing in front of his legendary father.

“I was always singing since I was a child, but I was doing it just in front of my mum – never my dad, because I was a little bit shy,” Matteo said, per People.

The second child of Andrea and his first wife Enrica Cenzatti, Matteo was born in October 1997 and grew up in Forte dei Marmi in Tuscany, per Classic FM. He also has an older brother Amos and a half-sister Virginia from his father’s second marriage to Veronica Berti.

Unlike his father, who famously came to classical training later on in life, Matteo began playing the piano at age seven, then went on to train classically at a music conservatory in Italy after senior school, according to Vanity Fair. However, despite his more operatic duets with his father, Matteo leans more towards pop ballads in his own work.

Aside from being influenced by pop greats like Lionel Richie, Elton John and Queen, Bocelli told Vanity Fair that Ed Sheeran quickly became his idol after seeing him open for Taylor Swift one night. The “Shape of You” singer then wrote a song called “Chasing Stars” for Bocelli’s debut album Matteo, released in September.

When Guess asked Bocelli to model in a campaign opposite J. Lo when he was just 18 years old, he was originally taken aback by the suggestion, he told WWD.

“I don’t feel like a model, especially when I look at the mirror,” he said, recalling that when he was told Jennifer Lopez would also be in the campaign, he realised he’d better step up. “They said, ‘J. Lo will be there.’ Then I was like, ‘This is a super cool thing. I must say yes.’”

However, in one video circulating online, Bocelli admits that his love of blondes runs deep. “Since I was a little kid … I remember I was in love with this Italian [TV presenter] originally from Switzerland, Michelle Hunziker,” he told the interviewer. “But at the same time I was in love with Angelina Jolie.”

There’s no doubt this nepo baby has had access to some of the world’s most impressive people – from the pope to various American presidents – thanks to his famous father. But the singer has made friends in high places of his own. An Instagram post in 2018 revealed a long term friendship with model Bella Hadid, and he also performed at Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian’s wedding, as well as attending Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s nuptials as a guest, per Vanity Fair.

In 2022, Bocelli tried his hand at acting when he scored the part of Prince Mustafa in the film Three Thousand Years of Longing alongside Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.

“It’s the first time I’ve been cast in a movie and it’s been such an incredible experience,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that he was dumbfounded to be part of such a stellar cast.

“Oscar winners! And then there’s me! So even being involved in a small way means the world,” he said.
