the human figure instead of being represented in an upright position and being inserted in a perfect geometric mesh, made in his own image, seems to have been forcibly locked up in a confined space.
The position taken is so unnatural that it has altered its anatomy, transforming the body into a tangle of limbs.
The sleeping subject seems to sink into a deep sleep, like an interminable fall into a… tomb.
Time, space, the entire past of a life have remodeled it, shaped it, deformed it, bringing it back to a fetal condition. Compression evokes the fear of dying or perhaps the fear of being born.

« I say with painting what I cannot explain with words. I paint fragments of life to taste, like a wafer to chew, to feel, understand, and identify with. »
Nicolò Nigri is an artist based in Italy whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Inspired by autobiographical experiences, his art draws its main influence from the themes that are common to humanity which include freedom, understanding and charity, acceptance, the free manifestation of oneself, as well as personal and sexual identity, etc. Nigri's figurative compositions are created with acrylics and oil pastels on canvas or paper.
