Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) collected Sh24.11 trillion in tax revenue for the 2022–2023 fiscal year, equivalent to 97.4 percent of the target, the authority has announced.

Though the authority missed its Sh24.76 trillion annual target by merely 2.6 percent, this collection was recorded as a success because it is higher compared to what the taxman collected in the preceding fiscal year.

During 2021–2022, according to TRA, over Sh22.28 trillion was collected.

In new data issued recently, TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Alphayo Kidata, said, among others, that strengthening tax collection systems, improving working conditions, and ensuring adequate human resources have contributed to the rise in revenue collection.

"For the 2023–2024 fiscal year, we want taxpayers to consider key issues such as the issuance of electronic receipts, paying appropriate taxes, manufacturers making sure they use tax stamps, and continuing to raise awareness on tax issues," he said.
