Over 22K runners qualified for the 2024 Boston Marathon

The 128th Boston Marathon will take place on April 15, 2024, and qualified applicants have begun to be notified of their acceptance.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has reported that 22,019 athletes worldwide have qualified and been notified of their acceptance to participate in the Boston Marathon. To qualify for each respective age group or gender, athletes must achieve a time of 5 minutes and 29 seconds or faster, which is the "Cut-Off" time required to participate in the race.

David Tyrie, Chief Digital Officer and Chief Marketing Officer for Bank of America said in a memo that this year's registration week had the highest number of qualified applicants in race history.

The Boston Marathon was founded in 1887 by the Boston Athletic Association, a non-profit organization committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle through running. The course was lengthened to 26 miles, 385 yards in 1924 to align with the Olympic standard.
