Description

Native to south-eastern United States, naturalised in Europe.

The branches have short, strong thorns.

Flowers

Flowers creamy-white, in bunches of 10-20 cm, with a scent similar to orange blossom.

Leaves

Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem. Oval to round leaflets on either side of the stem, mid-green.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: linear-oblong, flattened, 5-10 cm.

Edible

Pods: after cooking. Flowers: deep fried in batter. A mono-floral honey is made from Acacia flowers.
