Girls Exclusive: Self-Love While Social Distancing!

As all of us are trying to adjust to our new normal in the midst of COVID-19, the YWCA Girls Exclusive staff compiled some fun ideas and creative strategies for girls to practice self care while social distancing at home. We hope you enjoy!

Socializing From Afar!

Tip #1: Video Chatting

Initiate a FaceTime / Video Chat with a friend. Leave the video chat running in the background for an hour or two while you go about your day. While this sounds a little intrusive, this method allows you to spend time together naturally as if you were in the same space.

Tip #2: Online Movie Night

Find a movie that you all want to watch (a bad one that you can all comment on is the most fun option). Then, use the Google Chrome extension called “Netflix Party” that allows you to simultaneously stream Netflix with friends. It even has a chat window and a play and pause button for everyone in the group.Click here to get the extension on your computer!

Tip #3: Exercise together through FaceTime / Video Chatting

There are many activities that are really fun that count as exercise! Some things you could do are:

  1. Dancing: Choreograph dances with your friends through video chats! Dancing is a really fun way to get some exercise, without feeling like you you’re working out.
  2. Yoga: Yoga is a great way to get in touch with your body and relax. Here are some at home yoga YouTube videos for you and your friends to follow!

  3. Walking: While we should be staying inside most of the time, getting fresh air is still very important for our mental and physical health! Go on walks with your friends, or video chat with each other while you take your walks separately.
