La superficie che viene generata dalla rotazione di un ellisse (blue) intorno ad un'altra (rossa) si chiama ellissoide ellittico. Se al posto dell'ellisse generatrice (blue) mettiamo una parabola, la superficie si chiama paraboloide ellittico. In considerazione del fatto che le generatrice e la direttrice possono scambiarsi i ruoli, percui se fissiamo la parabola e ruotiamo l'ellisse, la superficie si chiama ellissoide parabolico. Quindi il nome della superficie, in questi casi, inizia con il tipo della conica generatrice e poi lo segue quello della direttrice. ..the name of the surface starts with the type of the generatrix and then follows that of the directrix |
