Splenriet is a most splendid hybrid Bromeliad springing from Vriesea Splendens which was known and collected since 1840 in Trinidad and Venezuela. Stout, strappy leaves, strongly zebra striped in light and dark green tending to purplish sprout in an orderly rosette cradling a central cup that grabs rainwater and leaf debris to feed and water it in the jungle. From this cradle rises a flaming sword inflorescence in deep orange, the star of the show. The amazing flowers last for weeks on end. Watch out for little pups that will spring up around the bottom of the plant as it blooms.

- Water - Medium (3): Water plant when dry. Plant does not like soil to always be moist, but doesn't like to stay dry once becomes dry. Water as soon as soil is dry.
- Light - Med/High (4): Needs more light than most, but direct light not necessary. Can handle morning and afternoon sun directly on leaves.
- Difficulty - Low (1): These plants need barely any attention to thrive. Set it and forget it.
