S. lateriflora features blue wildflowers growing on one side of plant beginning summertime on through until late fall. This herbaceous wildflower herb features large leaves and grows 2-3 ft tall. Plant can be potted or be grown in a garden bed. Can be found in the wild growing near ponds or on the outskirts of other wetlands and even in heavily graveled rockery areas as long as some moisture is to be found. Grows rhizomes that can be divided in the spring.
Mad Dog Skullcap is highly appreciated for its medicinal value. It yields significant anti-oxidant power. Supports a healthy nervous system; which when working effectively, manages anxiety levels, balances nerves and tames convulsions. Indeed, scutellaria has been relied upon for hundreds of years to support these nervous system functions when the nervous system is in need of a little help.
Germination Procedure: Place seeds in a moist paper towel, then put it all into a ziplock-sealed baggie into the refrigerator for 30 days to simulate a cold winter season and thus break the seeds dormancy. Next, remove the seeds and sow 1/4 inch deep in 70-80 degree soil temperatures. Germination time: 30 days.
