Eriobotrya deflexa (loquat) is an evergreen tree or large shrub with large leaves and with time, clusters of whitish fragrant flowers.  Eriobotrya deflexa is a RARE species of loquat with very large tropical looking leaves that flush a pale greenish red in the spring, then darken to deep green as the season progresses. It has a fairly upright growth habit.  Eriobotrya deflexa is fast-growing and would make a bold evergreen statement at the back of your border.  Eriobotrya deflexa is uncommon enough that we have no information on ultimate size or cold hardiness.  It showed little damage in our zone 7-8 garden this winter at about 10 degrees F but probably best in zones 8 and warmer.
