In Memory Of Anna Piaggi: The Fashion Legend's 7 Wildest Looks Ever

In a world full of wisp-thin, black-clad, trend-obsessed fashion editors, Italian Vogue's Anna Piaggi made her mark for a wardrobe as wildly unique as her spirit.

In a world full of wisp-thin, black-clad, trend-obsessed fashion editors, Italian Vogue's Anna Piaggi made her mark for a wardrobe as wildly unique as her spirit.

The legendary editor--whom Manolo Blahnik once called "the world's last great authority on frocks"--died today in Milan at age 81, according to WWD, survived by one of the world's greatest collections of clothes and accessories. In 2006, the Victoria & Albert Museum honored her style with an exhibit called "Anna Piaggi Fashion-ology", which estimated her dress collection at 2,865--and she was intent on never being photographed in the same look twice. Her eccentric, jester-meets-bohemian look inspired countless fans and followers, STF included. In memory of the true fashion original, we present our seven favorite Anna Piaggi looks of all time.

The occasion wasn't a costume party, but that didn't stop her from doing masquerade to perfection. Most of her hats were created by Stephen Jones, to whom she served as muse for many years.

This last one really says it all, don't you think? While Dita Von Teese was exuding her usual sex appeal, Anna was a stunning contrast in layers and layers of unique pieces.
