We need to improve measurement of adolescent wellbeing and work out how to use the results to improve outcomes for young people. We set out some of the challenges in this new BMJ paper as part of a wellbeing collection launched last week. Wonderful working with WHO colleagues on this, always a joy #Adolescents2030 https://lnkd.in/eJ5uWBzQ

What happens if we broaden our conversations about food security for young people beyond just free school meals? How about if we think about the food offer in out-of-school settings? A few weeks ago we gathered stakeholders in the London Borough of Newham to brainstorm with us, to think about how food works for young people in the borough’s out-of-school youth spaces. Hats off to the wonderful The Felix Project and Bite Back for their inspiration and to everyone who came along. This is a lovely clear description of the role of the VCSE in reducing health inequalities for children & young people. Children North East has done some amazing work in this space #healthinequalities #youthhealth
Sharing our new blog today on #womensday by FAB charity leader Leigh Elliott Children North East beautifully describing the critical work that charities like hers do on a daily basis, the need to prioritise our efforts for creating equity for our future generations, and the sheer power of partnership between communities and statutory organisations (see the great example between Leigh & Samantha Allen NENC ICB) in driving positive change. https://lnkd.in/eeK7g5qR Prof. Durka Dougall Samira Ben Omar Andy Knox Joanne Bosanquet MBE RN FRCN FQNI QN Abraham George Ellie McNeil David Hunter Dr Nayab N. Interesting and salutary to read these Department for Culture, Media and Sport reports published last week on the impact of youth work on young people's outcomes. Salutary because cuts to youth services is high on the list of local authority savings being discussed in the news today. We disinvest in this age group at our peril. One of the conclusions - " Statistical analysis of the effect of these changes on localities shows that a year after a drop in expenditure, local authorities see increased incidences of bike theft, shoplifting, possession of weapon offences, and a higher proportion of young offenders who re-offend." Even more fundamental - and related - will be the underlying changes to feelings of community, belonging, self worth, support from adults, mental wellbeing, something to do, somewhere safe to go.... https://lnkd.in/eu-BqixN

My wonderful colleague & fellow Trustee at Habitats & Heritage, Zoe Lawrence, is running for us to raise money later this month. As anyone who has anything to do with small & medium sized charities will know, securing unrestricted funding is always a challenge but so critical to our ability to deliver. She's already doing a huge amount for H&H so this is going above & beyond! Thank you Zoe! https://gofund.me/f98ad13b

The team led by Prof G.J.Melandez-Torres at University of Exeter Faculty of Health and Life Sciences has been a joy to work with, I've learned so much. This paper reports findings from a mixed-methods systematic review looking at school-based interventions for the prevention of dating and relationship violence and gender-based violence. It is absolutely not straightforward to establish what works for whom https://lnkd.in/e5uuHEqq

How can we place young people's voice at the centre when we think about prevention of sexual exploitation? How do we weave their experiences into our service planning and delivery? What challenges might this throw up? It is skilled and demanding work. Back in 2019, the Samworth Foundation funded a set of six organisations in their Young Voices programme, which we evaluated at the ASSOCIATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE'S HEALTH https://lnkd.in/eCx48cVK
