Panax Notoginseng & Astragalus Extract Compound Material

On December 2, 2020, the European Union Food Safety Administration (EFSA) issued Regulation (EU) No. 2020/1821, according to the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EU) 2015/2283, authorizing the compound raw materials of Panax notoginseng and Astragalus extract AstraGin® is officially launched on the EU market as a new EU resource food (Novel Food).

On June 7, 2018, NuLiv Science of the United States submitted an application to the European Commission in accordance with Article 10(1) of (EU) 2015/2283, requesting the combination of Panax notoginseng and Astragalus extract as a new resource food . According to Article 10(3) of (EU) 2015/2283, EFSA evaluates the raw material as a new resource food ingredient and provides relevant scientific opinions.

On May 24, 2020, the EFSA Research and Evaluation Team issued an opinion on the safety of the raw material as a new resource food, stating that it is safe to consume 0.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg bw) AstraGin raw material per day, which is equivalent For adults (excluding pregnant women) the maximum daily intake is 35 mg.

AstraGin is a standardized plant extract extracted from the roots of Panax Notoginseng and Astragalus. Its total saponins content is at least 1.5%, astragaloside IV is at least 0.01%, and ginsenoside Rb1 is at least 0.1%. At the same time, AstraGin® is a patented natural compound with multiple patents in the United States, China, Taiwan and other places, which can promote a healthy intestinal environment and reduce inflammation.

According to the revised European Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2470, the parameters of the raw materials of Panax Notoginseng and Astragalus compound are as follows:

At present, Panax notoginseng flower and Panax notoginseng stems and leaves are also common foods in my country. As a local specialty food management, please refer to "DBS53/024-2017 Food Safety Local Standard Dried Panax Notoginseng Stems and Leaves" and "DBS53/023-2017 Food Dried Panax Notoginseng Flower by Safe Local Standard.

Astragalus is currently the raw material for the pilot plant of medicine and food in my country. On January 6, 2020, the Health and Health Commission issued the "Notice on the implementation of the traditional management of 9 substances such as Codonopsis that are both food and Chinese medicinal materials." According to the provisions of the Food Safety Law, after safety assessments and extensive public comments, 9 substances including Codonopsis, Cistanche, Dendrobium officinale, American ginseng, Astragalus, Ganoderma lucidum, Dogwood, Gastrodia, Eucommia ulmoides, etc., will be carried out in accordance with the tradition as both food and eucommia leaves. It is a pilot project for the production and operation of Chinese medicinal materials (hereinafter referred to as food and drug substances). After the trial is passed, Astragalus can be included in the same medicine and food.
