Commiphora mukul (Shuddha Guggul)

 

Shuddha guggulu is a purified guggul used in various ayurvedic formulations. The gum derived from Commiphora wightii (also kwon as mukul myrrh tree or Commiphora mukul). 

Studies have shown this herb to have the following actions:-

Anti-inflammatory and Anti-arthritic activity: Guggulsterones in Guggul helps to relive joint pain, inflammation and stiffness by inhibiting Prostaglandins synthesis and the activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappaB).

Immunomodulator: Guggul Supresses inflammatory mediators such as IL-2, TNF-α, IL-β and control autoimmune induced chronic inflammation and joints damage.

Hypolipidemic Activity: Guggulsterone inhibits  liver cholesterol  synthesis  by acting  on  HMG-COA,  decreased  LDL  and  increased  HDL  level, it also increases lipolytic  activity in liver and excretion of bile acids and cholesterol in the feces.

It also enhanced the production of thyroxin and triiodothyronine; these hormones increase the metabolism of carbohydrates and protein synthesis and help in lowering the lipid activity.

Osteogenic: Guggulsterone suppresses osteoclastgenesis and reduces the rate of bone remodelling.
