Height:  50-100cm (2-3 ft) with tall, arching flower stalk

Spread:  30 cm (12 in); gently self-sows new corms to make a colony

Bloom:  August-September; series of hood-like flowers blushed mauve on the outside, with light yellow & mauve markings inside

Foliage:  Narrow grey-green lance leaves

Light:  Full to part sun

Water:  Moderate to none (once established); avoid wet crowns and roots

Soil:  Average; good drainage

Maintenance:  Cut dead stems at season's end

Garden site:  Mid to back area of perennial bed; lovely against dark background; beautiful alone or paired with late blooming mauve and light yellow flowers
