Angraecum sesquipedale
The spectacular flowers of Angraecum sesquipedale can be up to 20cm wide with the spur adding a further 30cm. Creamy white and highly fragrant at night to attract the moth that pollinates it.
This species has its place in science history. The famous naturalist Charles Darwin accurately predicted that it would be pollinated by what was at that time an unknown moth with a proboscis the same length as the nectar spur. The moth was discovered some 20 years after Darwin’s death.
Give it intermediate to warm, moist conditions, bright light, and a well draining mix.
