A large, evergreen tree to 30 m tall, native to eastern Asia and also widely cultivated there for its wood and camphor, a waxy substance used in Asian cuisine, in incense, as an insect repellant and as medicine. The tree is also popular to a lesser degree as an ornamental. Easily grown in warm temperate and tropical areas.
