The well-known Hazelnut is widely popular in temperate climates as an ornamental and as a fruit tree for its delectable seeds that are also a main ingredient in nougat. Originally native throughout Europe, it is cultivated in suitable climates worldwide. Corylus avellana grows as a shrub or small tree rarely more than 8 m tall with many ascending branches. It forms mykorrhiza with truffles and porcini mushrooms.
