This beautiful, deciduous perennial forms a rosette of wide, strap-like, blue green leaves from a large bulb in winter. In autumn, before the leaves appear, it produces a tall, slender inflorescence with a terminal cluster of pinkish white, star-shaped flowers. Drimia maritima has a widespread distribution from the Canary Islands through the Mediterranean east to Iran, generally at lower elevations. It is popular as an ornamental plant in warm temperate climates.
