A small to medium tree to about 15 m tall, native to India. It has large, dark green leaves and whitish bark. The large, lavender to rose colored flowers are borne in large panicles and slowly turn pale over several days. The durable, reddish wood is popular for furniture and similar applications. It is resistant to rot and can be used outside. It makes and outstanding ornamental for the tropics in USDA Zones 10 and above and is also used in traditional medicine.
