Palacio de Viana

Córdoba, Spain

Palacio de Viana was established as the family estate in 1492 by Gómez Suárez de Figuroea. He died childless and was succeeded by his nephew. The original house has experienced numerous alterations up to our days, of which we can highlight the extension in the 17th century, which gave it its current appearance to a great extent.

The palace covers a surface of more than 6,500 square metres, of which almost 4,000 of them correspond to courtyards, gardens and open spaces. Visitors, more than 70,000 every year, are especially attracted by the elegant patios and the superb 18th century garden of this palace which has lately become a museum, thanks to the collaboration of an important institution in the town.

If you like beautiful gardens (Patios) this place is great, 12 to see. We did the house tour but is only in Spanish.

Regardless of whether you want to explore the patios on your own, with kids or with your partner, the Palacio de Viana is a neat place for old and young, for lonely travellers as well as those romantic couples. Located inside a historical palace it offers you a glimpse into the past, with visits of the interior dwelling areas as well as the patios, which to me, are probably more fascinating and the highlight. Kids will love the flowers and hide behind the trees and bushes or play with their fingers in the various fountains. For the romantic couples, a great place to disconnect from the outside world, enjoy the tranquility of nature and beauty of the flowers. Perhaps a place to propose ?

A building with an interesting story of the different Viana generations that lived in the building. Gardens are not special.

I think the palace is great. It had some really nice patios. I would recommend to visit if you come to Cordoba.

Clickimin Broch

The Broch of Clickimin is a large and well preserved, though somewhat restored broch near Lerwick. Originally built on an island in Clickimin Loch (now increased in size by silting and drainage), it was approached by a stone causeway. The water-level in the loch was reduced in 1874, leaving the broch high and dry. The broch is situated within a walled enclosure and, unusually for brochs, features a large 'blockhouse' between the opening in the enclosure and the broch itself. Another unusual feature is a stone slab featuring sculptured footprints, located in the causeway which approached the site. Situated across the loch is the Clickimin Leisure Centre.
