immergrüner, milchsaftführender Strauch oder kleiner Baum bis zu 5 m mit grau-brauner Rinde und gegenständig angeordneten, bis zu 7,5 cm langen breit elliptischen, ledrigen, tiefgrünen, unterseits helleren Blättern. Die süßlich duftenden, weißen Blüten erscheinen in dichten Büscheln in den Blattachseln, gefolgt von eßbaren, ca. 2 cm ø großen, bei Reife, rot-violettfarbenen, aber bitteren Früchten. Diese Art ist sehr giftig und nur völlig reife Früchte sind genießbar!
