Our Feedback
Late July and I decided to replace a couple of plants in my flowerbed that are not earning their keep. I decided I want Fuchsias. I did a bit of research, decided on the variety I wanted and then tried to find some. Victoriana came up trumps and had the variety I was looking for, and offered reasonably priced mail order too. I was delighted when I received my plants. They are sturdy and bushy. They've been pinched back so there are lots of shoots. They were well packed and clearly were posted to avoid being in the post over the weekend in what was a very hot spell in July / August 2020. Arrived still moist and in fabulous condition. I am delighted with them. A teensy bit potbound, as to be expected at this time of year, but the lovely root system means I'm sure they'll get their roots out and grow on in no time. 100% satisfied customer; I would happily recommend Victoriana Nurseries to anyone wanting to buy a Fuchsia. These are the experts. Thank you!

Description

Commonly known as Caper Spurge, their use as a mole deterrent has been known of for many years. Amazingly there has been no formal research on this purported property, though we have to say that from our own experience they do indeed work!

It is thought that the roots exude a scent into the soil that the moles do not like (and may also taint the flavour of worms making them unpalatable) - and so the moles relocate elsewhere.

The plant itself is a highly ornamental architectural plant with erect stems of glaucous-green long thin leaves.

  • Biennial, but will self seed.
  • Grows to approximately 4 feet (120 cm) tall.
  • Plant at 10 feet (3 metre) spacings for best effect.
  • All parts of the plant, including the seeds and roots are poisonous. Handling may cause skin irritation as the plant produces latex.
  • While poisonous to humans and most livestock, goats sometimes eat it and are immune to the toxin. However, the toxin can be passed through the goat's milk.
