VOGUE Italia fashion contributor Anna Piaggi died today in her Milan home. She was 81 years old.
The industry has already started paying tribute: "23 years of working together, thousands of D.P. [Doppie Pagine - double-page spreads] realised together. You will always be remembered Anna," Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani Tweeted this afternoon.

A bastion of the fashion world and one of the front row's most distinguishable faces, Piaggi was known for her unpredictable fantastical two-page spreads in Vogue Italia - which are thought to be a mainstay of the magazine. She was widely regarded as a true style icon, with a wardrobe full of flamboyant, vibrant clothes, her dyed-blue hair always falling over one eye and lips ever painted in bright colours.
Piaggi was born in Milan and began her career as a translator for publishing house The Mondadori Group, where she met her now-late husband - photographer Alfa Castaldi. She went onto work for magazines including Arianna, Vanity and Panorama, before joining Vogue Italia in the Sixties - her longest-running collaboration. She has served as muse to a diverse array of influential designers, from Manolo Blahnik and Karl Lagerfeld to Stephen Jones and the Dolce & Gabbana designers.
