GAVELLO nel blu

SAINT OF ATHENS as Interior Design

SAINT OF ATHENS has been involved in this project for the past 8 months in the context of our ongoing collaboration with the brand GAVELLO. From coming up with the concept to going through with it, the process was long and extremely creative. The making of the store took us approximately 2 months.

THE LOCATION:
The store is located in Mykonos, a cosmopolitan Cycladic island in the Aegean. The Mykonian architecture is picturesque, based on traditional aesthetic principles of minimalism, eye-soothing forms and subtle beauty. The point was to combine the local spirit with a sense of modernity.

THE BRAND:
The brand was a valuable ally, both conceptually and technically. Overall, our collaboration was constructive and fruitful.

INSPIRATION:
Wes Anderson’s aesthetic universe was a major influence, along with works by artists like Slim Aarons and David Hockney. The pool design matches the fluid nature of the jewels, evoking summery and relaxing notions. The retail items become parts of a greater, playful narrative.

THE MATERIALS:
Ceramic tiles, metal and glass, used in careful portions, resulted in a realistic pool representation in approximately 55-60m2

VISITOR’S EXPERIENCE:
The goal is to activate their curiosity, to generate a feeling of exploration in a space that encourages creativity of all sorts. A good experience has to be a memorable one.

DESIGN ITEMS:
Seamlessly, in a way that blends practicality with the aesthetic aspect of the store. Take a look at the conical ring holders, for example: they look like something on which you could hang your imaginary pool towel!

CHALLENGES:
Building a new store from scratch on an island is not an easy task. First of all, everything had to be delivered from the mainland. Then, the island’s roads and alleys were too narrow for the materials to be carried easily, so a lot of things had to be assembled in situ, so as to minimize the mass of the store’s constructional bits and pieces. On the other hand, we learned how to adapt to difficult situations and readjust our inspiration without compromising our vision.
