Subject: Mame has DVD CHDs
Subject: Mame has DVD CHDs
Mame added the option to make DVD CHDs in their update May 31st update, the PS2 section seems to mostly have CHDs made before then so it's all either made with the CD command or with the RAW command.
I have checked by converting my own iso files and one from here by extracting and re compressing and can confirm that these CHDs work with PCSX2 already, Due to this I believe that you should probably update the current DVD PS2 games in this set with ones made with that mode.
The command for this, batch or otherwise is the same as the one for CDs, just take the Cue to CHD command and change (*.cue) to (*.iso) and createcd to createdvd.
If it's not possible due to a lack of storage space or time, I can download all the files in the PS2 section and do the conversion myself and host it on archive.org so that you can download it and add it to the collection here.
I bring up converting this set due to the DVD CHDs made with the new mode seeming to run better and be a bit smaller on average than ones made via the previous way, converting them would make it easier for anyone in the future who wants to use this collection since they won't have to re-convert it if they own lower-end hardware or are low on storage/don't have much in the first place.
P.S - If you do convert them on your own and did make the current non-CD ones with the createraw command then remember to use the extractraw command instead of the extractcd command when extracting them for reconversion.

picking through single files seems to be ok if you're patient, but any per system zip file i try ends in DL speeds of 50kb or so. its been like that since the most recent updates on 7/30 and after it seems, at least on my end anyways. other archive pages work so not sure what's up. fantastic collection although there are alot of copies for every slight addendum with games such as final fantasy 5 and 6 on the snes. a little over kill for my taste..but you can't beat the collection as a whole. well done.

I wonder if you can get to patch a fresh copy of the Makyouden to english for PC-98? This game ain't available in your collection. I found it uploaded by another user but I can't make it run(on Neko Project). I mount the images but nothing happen so I can only imagine they've done something wrong.
I can't get to find the patch of this game to make a fresh copy myself.

That ROM hack is listed as "Phantom Travel Journal (Japan) [T-En by Jackic v0.9] [n]"
@kona2194
Wave Race 64 translation patch did trim the ROM size, in this archive, the ROM file got expanded to its original ROM size.
@Rolen47
SRAM checks and region locks were disabled, which might come in handy for the oldtimers that still using old-style SNES copiers.
@rarenight
The Akai Ito PS2 translation is already added to the set, it's the same as this:
SuperLite 2000 Vol. 34 - Akai Ito (Japan) [T-En by Shizuka & Nanashi3 & Zohar v20170115] [i]
@Melon Bread
So far, the medarot 3 translation it's in pre-release state, but probably will end up in the set, it's a matter of time, thanks for the suggestion.
@Sixfortyfive
Although you have valid reasons to dislike the CHD format, I only will upload files that are verified by the DAT files (which aren't mine), so I won't change anything at all.
Most modern emulators support CHDs, including MisterFPGA, the process to revert CHD to ISO, CUE\BIN or GDI isn't that hard, and files will retain the data integrity (lossless).
If CHD it's such a bad format, MAME wouldn't create it and use it in the first place, if you're having emulation issues, maybe can be the result of the bad CHD support implementation, try to report the issues next to the emu devs.
@Opera_of_Death
The game title changed from "Battle Team Lakers II" to "Holy Girl Force Lakers II", that's why ;)

Sorry, there is nothing I can do about it, I'm still hoping the archive.org fixes the issue about not generating the torrent file for archives over 75Gbs
@Guybrush Ulysses Threepwood Jones
Thanks, it's fixed now ;)
@CaptainHIT
you can find that translation with the following filename
"Ninja Boy Rantarou 64 Game Gallery (Japan) [T-En by Zoinkity v1.0] [n]"
@McMan777
Unfortunately, I cannot add torrents to archives over 75Gbs, try to update the JD2 and clear the browser cache, maybe that will help fix the issue.
@retroNUC
The GB ROMs got checksum fixed after applying the official ROM patches, to avoid warning triggers in the emulators like BGB.
Thanks everyone, the comment's have been very helpful ;)

Subject: SNES ROMs
Several SNES ROMs got a CRC change but the version number for the translation didn't change. I'm just curious why. For example, Metal Max Returns recently got changed from 3ddc78f3 to 55d5d8a3.
What's strange is when I apply the Aeon Genesis patch myself to the no-intro Japanese ROM (CRC 4396a35b) I get a different CRC then what's in this collection: c76465a8
What extra stuff is being done to the SNES ROMs besides applying the translation patch? Using a Hex editor to compare the differences it looks like only a few bytes are different.

Subject: Great. But I have one problem.
The names of some of these folders and files (caused by the names of the creators of the Translations and multiple layers of addendums) are way too long, causing them to have trouble copying to certain devices (like my Android phone). I think they should be shortened somehow, for example,
The folders should also have the shorter versions of the consoles names (e. g. "Super Famicom" should be called "SFC" and "Game Boy Color" should be called "GBC"). Also, why is the N64 collections (including 64DD) called "Nintendo - Nintendo 64"? there's no need to say Nintendo twice, it should be "Nintendo - N64". I think you should rename that on your No-Intro ROM Set too.
The word "Collection" on the folders should be changed to "Set" (e. g. "Nintendo - Super Famicom [T-En] Collection" to become "Nintendo - SFC [T-En] Set")
Also the collection's page still says 2022 even though it was last updated in 2023.

Since Panasonic was just a licensee of 3DO (if certainly the best known one) the dat and download should be "3DO - 3DO Interactive Multiplayer". (GoldStar/LG and Sanyo were other licensees). I'd also suggest following the TOSEC model with separate game and docs dats per platform.
Hashes for several Game Gear titles do not match between the dat and the ROMs actually present in the collection. At the very least, these are Lunar - Sanposuru Gakuen, the Phantasy Star Gaiden and Adventure titles, and Shining Force Gaiden.

Subject: Great, but note on CHDs
Subject: Great, but note on CHDs
Love this set, it's complete to the point of inconvenience; every patch comes in every addendum or optional iteration, so a game with two addendum patches + an optional font toggle will have a dozen some different files you'll have to reference against Romhacking.net
That said, I've one suggestion, and one warning:
The suggestion: if possible I'd like a release date (even just year) added onto EN TL patches alongside the version number going forward; for a lot of these I'd squint at three different TLs by three different romhackers, each versioned above 1.0, because you really can't tell what the newest (and therefore likely most modern) patches are at a glance. Release docs are included where applicable, but it is inconvenient to cross-reference.
And the warning: CHDs are an iffy format. Per the uploader, "Most modern emulators support CHDs...the process to revert CHD to ISO, CUE\BIN or GDI isn't that hard, and files will retain the data integrity"... but from my testing, that isn't 100% true.
See, when revering CHDs to CUE\BIN, chdman.exe and its accompanying .bat scripts will ALWAYS merge bins into a single file on extracting, even where a CD rip will have audio tracks and game data split into multiple bins; there's no easy way to re-split these (I checked around), and as I've just discovered, this WILL screw up audio on at least some emulators.
Take playing Popful Mail (Un-Worked Designs) on 3ds, for instance: for running it you've a choice between the Retroarch Genesis Plus Core, the Picodrive core, or a standalone Picodrive utility - but since Retroarch is super laggy for SCD on 3ds, Picodrive's your only real option. Yet Picodrive can't read CHDs, so you need to convert back to CUE\BIN... except, whoops, the game's meant to come in 4 consecutive.bin files. And if it's NOT in that format, picodrive will play entirely the wrong audio track over the opening - a vocal theme rather than the opening narration. Now you've lost the game's backstory, the title theme is missing, and there's probably gonna be more audio issues going forward.
And that's just from 2 minutes of testing. Weirdly, grabbing it prepatched from CDRomance - which hosts a 1-bin file itself - DOES work, making me think it's more a problem with reconstructing audio cues than anything; either way though, moment that became clear, I couldn't trust CHD conversions... and by the same token it's not truly lossless, since it can't be freely '''downsampled''' back to the inferior versions for compatibility. Which does leave me kinda sorta asking for maybe an alternative set of raw files, even if you want to keep the CHDs; the end user can always turn BIN\CUE into CHDs without issue, but the inverse isn't 1:1. Yeah you can patch it yourself, but the archive's otherwise stellar, the whole point's to have everything in one place... and it cost me over an hour of testing to figure this out, so headache-inducement's also a factor.

Hi, I'm the translator for a bunch of PC-98 games you have in this collection.
I wanted to correct an error: Guynarock 2 is not by me, even if I've contributed to the project. It should be credited to Alpharobo, who led it from start to finish.

Hi!
I noticed that the game:
Holy Girl Force Lakers II (Japan) [T-En by BabaJeanmel v1.0] [n] (Harddisk)
was updated in the NEC-PC9801 DAT but it's missing in the ROM collection. It still contains the 0.3 version of the translation and the same for the documents.
Thank you for these great collections!!!

Subject: Saturn translations that do not run; CHDs are an inconvenient format.
Did a quick check on all the Saturn translations and found errors running the following ones on real hardware:
Dragon Force II - hangs on Sega license screen and crashes to CD player (I was able to get this to work by obtaining the patch files from the project's website and applying them to my original disc. The version in your package appears to be made incorrectly.)
Falcom Classics - doesn't get past opening splash screen instructions
Langrisser III - all dialogue text is scrambled gibberish; menus seem to be OK
Also, CHD files are inconvenient for the user experience. Most ODEs and emulators expect standard image formats (BIN+CUE, ISO, etc). You don't really gain any storage advantage from a CHD that you wouldn't already get from compressing a BIN/ISO. Please consider updating packages to match the formats used by popular archivist groups (Redump, TOSEC, etc).
EDIT: The Dreamcast games don't work on a console with GDEMU after converting the CHDs to GDIs via CHDMAN, either.
I don't know why the person a few posts below me is so rude. Some of us would like to play these games on real hardware and these formats do not work with the common ODEs.

Your request should be and will be ignored. Just because you enjoy using horribly outdated emulators/methods of playing disc-based titles, doesn't mean it should remain the norm.
CHD is, by far, the best format at this day and age for disc-based titles. They can be manually converted to cue/bin or .iso formats for those who need a reason to do so. Either adapt or stick to grabbing roms from sketchy, outdated websites.

Hi, this is a great resource.
I just have a suggestion to split it up into CD based systems and all other. That is because CD games require a lot of space and hinder the automatic torrent creation. So at least the disk and cartridge based games could be handled through torrent.

Since most of these don't have torrent links(which is fine and understandable), I was using Jdownloader 2 to download for the consoles I wanted so I didn't have to manually click each. It worked wonderfully on a few of the sections such as GBA and GBC. This is the only one that doesn't seem to want to work on that program for some reason.
Anyone have any tips to fix this? I know it's a long shot, nor is it the biggest deal since this is only some select titles for Eng translations.
Besides that, I appreciate all the collections you've put up! :)

Thank you very much for all your hard work! I can't imagine how much time it takes to search for patches and keep them up to date but I have some suggestions:
- Once we have donwloaded the whole pack, it might be dificult to tell if a rom have been updated without having to compare all the files since all files have the same date of modification. If you keep their original dates (I mean the date you patched them) we could search/search only for newer roms and download just the ones which have been recently updated.
- Sometimes we may be unsure choosing between different patches/versions for games that have a lot of them (e.g. final Fantasy games). In that cases, you could pick one version based on some criteria like most recent one, the one with most downloads at romhackin.net or your personal taste, and leave all other roms for a same game one separated folder.

Amazing collection!
Just a quick heads-up: Panasonic didn't own the 3DO, they were just one of the 3 companies licensed to manufacture and market it. A more suitable prefix for the file name would be "The 3DO Company", like in the Libretro core list.
Doctor Hauzer used to freeze before, but I checked again and it seems to be fixed. Nice!
