Remember Her? Rain Man Star Valeria Golino Resurfaces At Film Festival
For a while, Valeria Golino was everywhere – hitting a zenith for her role in the Oscar-winning ‘Rain Man’ alongside Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman.
But then, much like Keyser Söze, like that, she was gone.

This week, the 49-year-old Italian actress reemerged at the Venice Film Festival, promoting her latest movie, the drama Per Amor Vostro.
And in fact, she’s been working sterlingly in Italian film and TV ever since - she has 86 movie credits on IMDB - so be wary of calling this a comeback.
She first emerged in the US, however, playing Gina in the Pee-Wee Herman movie 'Big Top Pee-Wee’.
It was after that that she scored the role in 'Rain Man’, with roles in movies like Charlie Sheen spoof 'Hot Shots! Part Deux’, 'Leaving Las Vegas’, ‘Frida’, ‘Respiro’, the star-laden portmanteau movie 'Four Rooms’, and Sean Penn’s 'The Indian Runner’, opposite Viggo Mortensen, following after.
She was even in the last two up for the lead in 'Pretty Woman’, losing out to Julia Roberts.
But her work in Italy, both as an actress, and in recent years as a director, has been much celebrated back at home.
Her movie 'Honey’, which she both wrote and directed, won her two Italian Golden Globes.
This latest movie finds her playing a woman from Naples who abandons her home life after being inspired by a view of the sea.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2014, she said: “I came to Hollywood and I loved it. It was a great time, but in my head I was still elsewhere, in Europe.
“I believed in a certain cinema, which I still do believe in — a certain European cinema — and as a young woman being in America I thought I was being taken away from that.”
