Autosave folder v8 not storing any file

HI

the rhino autosave fordel has saved me several times over the last few years

i was trying to check the amount of files saved in the R8 autosave folder since i have been using RH for a few weeks now and i realized that the folder is empty…

i also made a check on the RH7 and RH6 autosave folder to make sure that RH8 files were not there and they are not.

i wonder why RH8 is not saving copies of the file automatically , how can i make it happen ?

thanks

Hi Fillipo - AutoSave files are deleted (well, moved to the Windows Trash) when Rhino closes cleanly.

You can test it.
Open the Autosave folder in Explorer and leave it open.
In Rhino, type the “Autosave” command while you’re watching the folder.
You should see a new Autosave file.
Then close Rhino and the file will have been deleted (moved) to the Recycle Bin.

Is there a way to store, say, X number of files before deletion?

Glad to see I’m not the only person who wishes this performed differently.

Autosave does exactly what it was designed to do.
It is a last resort tool intended to minimize data loss when Rhino crashes, nothing more.
It certainly should not be considered a replacement for making regular backups for disaster recovery or for archiving.

What problem are you trying to solve?

@John_Brock : I typed the autosave command and yes , it works as described

i have also refered to below discussion to make sure i wasnt confusing autosave and incremental save

thanks @John_Brock and @pascal for your clarification , now everything is clear and i know how to source the ausaved files in case of crash

kindest regards
