Amidst the heated political debates of the 2016 election, celebrities were a source for many of the major arguments for and against each candidate. “A lot of celebrities did, do, and shouldn’t,” said Wahlberg in an interview with Task and Purpose. According to the Patriots Day star, the outspoken of the entertainment business should stick to the arts. “You know, it just goes to show you that people aren’t listening to that anyway. They might buy your CD or watch your movie, but you don’t put food on their table. You don’t pay their bills. A lot of Hollywood lives in a bubble,” he said. The actor also addresses his own standing in the debate, noting the importance of focusing on “the real world,” while he believes Hollywood doesn’t. “They’re pretty out of touch with the common person, the everyday guy out there providing for their family. Me, I’m very aware of the real world. I come from the real world and I exist in the real world,” he said. “And although I can navigate Hollywood and I love the business and the opportunities it’s afforded me, I also understand what it’s like not to have all that.” Wahlberg’s upcoming film Patriots Day, which covers the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and opens in limited release Dec. 21 before expanding nationwide Jan. 13, is his third collaboration with director Peter Berg (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon). The actor portrays Sergeant Tommy Saunders, who’s part of the manhunt searching for the terrorists responsible for the attack.
