Post Golden Wind anime, since then Pesci is known as the shortest member of Squadra Esecuzioni. The height of La Squadra members have been hinted through their silhouettes:

Apart from that Pesci looked the shortest among them, the difference in height between him and Prosciutto also seems quite clear.

Then after the official height chart from the anime has been released, the clearer the height of each member of the La Squadra:

We can actually tell that Pesci’s height is 165 cm and Prosciutto is 178 cm (13 cm apart). I’ve written about my issue regarding these height charts before here and here (maybe you have already read it), but what I want to discuss more this time is about Pesci, that… is it true that Araki intended to depict him that way?

So I tried to see how Pesci was drawn in the manga:

When Pesci was comforted by Prosciutto from the first time, he did look a little shorter than his aniki. But then when he was consoled for the second time, this time, they’re seemed almost in the same height.

Of course I realized that being too close like that would be very difficult to estimate their difference in height. Still in the same chapter, we see both of them standing in one panel:

Considering that they were not standing upright at the time, it is still difficult to estimate, but both still show that they don’t have much difference in height, which means that this is different from their depiction in the anime.

Besides that, I also took a peek at Araki’s official art, JoJo A Go Go and here I saw that Pesci looked quite big in there:

Yeah, Pesci may not seem remarkably tall, but his body looks quite big & buff there, not as petite as how he was shown in the anime.

「King Crimson」 is the Stand of Diavolo, the main villain of Vento Aureo. It has a sub-Stand ability called Epitaph, which was primarily introduced by Vinegar Doppio.

A mandatory introduction, just skip this if you are already very familiar with 「King Crimson」!

Ability

• Time Erasure/Time Skip

「King Crimson」’s signature ability is to erase a given frame of time; it starts from the instant the ability is activated and can be made to last up to 10 seconds.

During this period of erased time, only Diavolo remains fully conscious and is the only one who can re-adjust his actions.Other people will be unable to experience anything that happens and will continue to act as they would have. After the effect of the ability ends, all people other than Diavolo will retain no memories of anything that happened during the erased period.

After the allotted time frame, people will suddenly find themselves in the situation they were supposed to be in afterwards. For example, when Fugo asked Giorno for a soda, the soda was suddenly in Fugo’s hand without Giorno ever actually handing it to him, when Narancia thought that someone had eaten his chocolate, while in truth he had already eaten the chocolate himself. (VA chapter 80)

There is, however, one instance where a person (Bruno) was able to see their double before finding themselves in their future position (which unfortunately has never been brought up again). (VA chapter 80)

According to JOJOVELLER, Diavolo and KC become intangible during time erasure, allowing attacks to pass through them, as the moment that the attack would have hit was erased. However, this also means Diavolo himself is unable to attack while KC’s time erasure is active.

As a result, he often relies on the ability to avoid attacks and move into advantageous positions, such as the enemy’s blind spot, then directly attacks the enemy with KC’s great destructive power the moment the ability ends.

He may also use said intangibility for a brief period of time in order to cause an attack to pass through him and hit whatever is on his opposite side. However, during his fight against Polnareff, Diavolo is also able to splatter his own blood onto an enemy’s projection in anticipation of blinding them.

• Forecast via 「Epitaph」

「Epitaph」 serves as a sub-Stand that assists and completes KC’s time erasure. Epitaph gives Diavolo/Doppio the ability to forecast what will happen into the future up to ten seconds, using Doppio’s bangs or Diavolo’s long flowing hair as a projector.

Diavolo and Doppio often use the forecasting ability of Epitaph to predict any incoming threat, making sneak attacks ineffective against them.

However, the visions are incomplete and only show the final result without the events leading up to it (hence the 10s limit), and thus can be subject to interpretation. In one instance, Doppio could see himself on the ground with a severed human foot flying by; he initially thought that the foot was his own, but was mistaken. (VA chapter 106)

While the predictions seen by Epitaph are unavoidable, they still effectively warn Diavolo and Doppio against incoming danger, allowing them to steer events to lessen the potential damage, such as when Doppio realized a pair of scissors would form inside his throat, he easily tore them out in order to save himself. KC itself can prevent the predictions from being completed if it erases the frame of time when the prediction would have come true.

Anime only watchers, I’m so sorry if you get confused, especially with so many fanarts already depicting them with different height difference. Maybe some are just headcanons, but it shouldn’t be for Buccellati’s gang, because a long time ago, in the late 90s when Vento Aureo (Golden Wind) manga was almost finished, their height had already been decided by Araki.

We all know that Squadra Esecuzioni (better known as “La Squadra”) was the first traitor group that betrayed Passione before Buccellati’s gang. It served as a minor antagonistic force throughout Vento Aureo, clashing against Passione’s Team Buccellati in their attempt to take The Boss’ daughter, Trish.

Squadra Esecuzioni’s main role was to carry on various assassinations beneficial to the gang, and the members would receive a bonus for each kill, but nothing else, as they were distrusted by the organization.

VA chapter 36: Narancia’s Aerosmith – part 6

The team eventually became tired of their situation and asked for a territory which would ensure greater income, but the Boss refused their request. The low salaries and distrust from The Boss were the initial motivations for them to betray Passione. The boss’ brutal warning that resulted in the gruesome deaths of Sorbet and Gelato fueled their anger for revenge (the full story wasn’t exactly that straightforward… but still).

‘Underpayment’ was the main reason behind the tragic end of Squadra Esecuzioni (and the story of ‘Vento Aureo’). So the question now is … why did Diavolo (The Boss) underpay his group of assassins?

Aren’t they professionals?

There is an interesting fanfic that accidentally managed to put together my thought about it:

Yeah, I think, Diavolo did not consider the job of La Squadra: using Stands for assassination as a difficult job, it is something that Diavolo himself was also able to do it easily. Therefore, he did not consider it a “professional job”.

We have also seen Diavolo kill several times, effectively without leaving a single trace of his existence (the fortune teller, Abbacchio, Polnareff (twice), Narancia and his first encounter with Bruno). “Their job is something that I can do myself if I have a time” may sum up why Diavolo gave such low credit to his group of assassins.

Then what about the other teams under Caporegimes? Those being assigned a territory to run the gang’s business and several teams with special tasks such as drug dealing, bodyguarding, data analyzing, gambling, and tax collecting? Why did Diavolo value them higher than La Squadra?

I think, as a loner boss who had chosen to hide his identity and make contact indirectly with his subordinates, Diavolo would certainly appreciate the work of the teams that have helped him run his mafia kingdom well.

The fic also justified Diavolo’s decision not to give any territory to La Squadra, 「King Crimson」 thought that La Squadra would not be able to handle the territory well, perhaps because of their time-consuming and busy works or perhaps because of their lack of experience to handle it.

Of course Diavolo still made that mistake, he should have paid La Squadra a little more (and perhaps showered them with bonuses) if they wouldn’t handle any territory.

It’s kinda interesting though, when many popular media have portrayed the assassin profession in high regard as in “they’re badass” “they’re dangerous” “don’t mess with these people” (Kill Bill, Hunter x Hunter, Ravage of Time, etc and One-Punch Man but in descontruction way), in Vento Aureo, the assassin was considered a worthless lowly profession in Diavolo’s eyes.
