Antonello da Messina (c. 1430-1479) was an Italian Renaissance painter. He was born in Messina, Sicily, and is known for pioneering the use of oil paint in Italy. Antonello studied under the artist Colantonio in Naples and later travelled to Venice, where he learned oil painting techniques from Flemish artists. His works are characterised by their luminosity, clarity and attention to detail. Some of his most famous works include "Saint Jerome in his Study", "Salvator Mundi" and "Portrait of a Man". Antonello's influence can be seen in the works of many Renaissance artists, including Albrecht Dürer and Leonardo da Vinci.
