Gnam Gnam Gelato and Bistro (336-288-8008) has opened at its new location, 2248 Golden Gate Drive in The Village at Golden Gate, formerly Golden Gate Shopping Center.
The gelato shop and bistro occupies the spot that was once a N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles license-plate office.
“We’re very excited to be in the new location and a bigger space,” says owner Selim Oztalay.
In addition to the shop’s popular 18 flavors of gelato, the bistro offers soups, sandwiches and a lunch and dinner hot bar with items like chicken pot pie, Beef Stroganoff, taco salad, chicken kabobs and rice, meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
The shop also offers coffee, lattes and espresso along with treats like Gelato Delight, with gelato sandwiched between two large cookies, and Waffle Bowls with a choice of toppings.

A daily lunch special, served 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., includes an entrée or hot bar with iced tea and a choice of a scoop of gelato or a Gelato Delight cookie. Dinner is served 6 to 9 p.m.
The bistro’s patio seats 20 to 24 at umbrella-covered tables.
Beer, wine and a dinner menu of gourmet entrees will be added soon.
Gnam Gnam offers catering, and meals to go will soon be available.
The shop is equipped to be a food truck commissary.
“We’re excited about everybody coming into the center,” Oztalay says.
Gnam Gnam joins other new and existing eateries in the center that include Melt Kitchen and Bar, Vito’s Italian Restaurant, The Green Bean and Golden Pizza and Subs.
Second Firehouse Subs
Firehouse Subs has opened at 1562-B Highwoods Blvd. in Greensboro.
The chain features medium and large hot specialty subs, including top sellers the Hook & Ladder — with smoked turkey breast and Virginia honey ham smothered with Monterey Jack cheese — and the Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket — with USDA choice beef brisket smoked for at least 16 hours in an authentic Texas smokehouse and topped with melted cheddar cheese and a special combination of sauces, including Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce.
Firehouse Subs offers an Under 500 Calories menu of six subs and four chopped salads, which debuted last year.
Firehouse Subs restaurants also feature the touch-screen Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain with more than 120 sparkling and still beverage brands with more than 70 regular and low-calorie options.
Hours for the new Greensboro restaurant are 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Gibsonville/Burlington openings
The Mission Taqueria-Cantina (336-603-6548; www.themissiontacos.com) has opened at 961 Burlington Ave. in Gibsonville.
It is in Phoenix Station strip center between Gibsonville and Elon.
The restaurant offers South of the Border-inspired items like Arroz con Pollo, Lobster and Chorizo Nachos, Chorizo and Pimento Cheese Fritters, and Black Bean Cakes and Grits.
There is also a taco menu with fillings like braised beef, mole chicken, orange-chile sauce pork, Mahi Mahi, potatoes and roasted Poblano peppers.
Beer, wine and margaritas are available.
The Mission opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.
And Aleko’s Delight (336-438-1318) has opened at 3281 S. Church St. in Burlington.
It is in the location formerly South Street Tavern.
Aleko’s offers Greek inspired entrees like spinach lasagna, Greek chicken, soups and salads.
The restaurant offers a Southern-style breakfast.
Hours are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
Help shape menu
Starting today, you get to help The Marshall Free House (1211 Battleground Ave.; 336-792-1999) in Greensboro develop new menu items.
Test Kitchen Trivia Night will be held 7 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
The evening will consist of four courses of small plates featuring experimental dishes and prototypes created by Chef Jay Pierce.
Tonight’s dishes include Oyster & Artichoke Boulliettes, Hickory-Smoked Pumpkin Bisque, Twenty-First Century Shepherd’s Pie and Vieux Carre Calas.
Rounds of light-hearted trivia will be held between each course.
Beverage pairings will be suggested for each course.
Cost is $20, and there will be prizes for trivia winners.
By the way, the restaurant is now open for lunch and dinner on Monday.

Place orders for pies
Spring Garden Bakery and Coffeehouse (1932 Spring Garden St.) in Greensboro and is taking orders for Thanksgiving pies.
Traditional favorites include pecan, chocolate pecan, chocolate walnut, apple, cherry, peach, blackberry, harvest fruit and even Key Lime.

Seeking bakers for cookie competition
Calling all home bakers. The News & Record is holding a holiday cookie recipe contest.
Amateur bakers are invited to submit their original, made-from-scratch cookie creations to the contest.
There will be first, second and third-place overall winners judged by a panel of News & Record staff and a professional baker.
Cookies must be made from scratch and will be judged on the attributes of appearance, creativity, texture and taste.
The contest is open to anyone ages 12 and older. Contestants must be amateur bakers.
Those who derive income from cooking or baking are not eligible.
Cookie drop-off will be 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7. Participants will be photographed when dropping off their cookies.
Winning cookie recipes will be published in the New & Record’s Dec. 16 Savor section.
