About Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis
Phalaenopsis orchids get their name from the Greek 'phalaina' meaning moth, as their flowers are thought to resemble moth or butterfly wings! 🦋 Once their flowers have blossomed, they will eventually die but the plant will live one and continue to produce new flower spikes throughout its life. Orchid flowers evolved to attract pollinators and ther unique shape helps keep insects safe while collecting and dispersing pollen! 🐝

Finding light for Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis in your home
Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Why is my orchid having Yellowing leaves?

Orchid Rescue? Hello. I’ve had this moth orchid for several months and she’s been neglected. I’d like to get her back into shape if possible. Besides repotting, is there anything I can do to save her? There appears to be a white fungus growing on the leaves as well, so any advice on that would also be appreciated. Thank so much! #OrchidLovers #MoonOrchid #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantTherapy #PlantProblems #OrchidProblems

Question on moisture level? Hi everyone, I have just repotted my orchid in some new bark. She's in a clear pot but having an orchid is very new for me. What's the best way for me to tell if the medium is dry? Sometimes it looks dry but I'm trying to avoid sticking my finger until she gets stronger roots. #newplants #orchidlovers

Orchid rescue mission My mom bought me this orchid last night, and it was in desperate shape. I cleaned most of the coconut husk crap off the roots and trimmed a couple that were mush. Took some velamin(sp?)off a few others that were looking rough. I now have her sitting in a glass dish with about an inch of water on her roots. She is staked to keep the crown from falling into the water. I know that in order to grow her in water culture, I have to do it slowly. I've already watched a few videos on YouTube about how to do this, but I have a few questions. I know every orchid is different, but about how long does it typically take for one to fully acclimate to water culture? I plan to do the 1 day wet 6 days dry method for now and slowly increase the amount of wet days until she can live in water permanently. Do any of you have experience with this method and could give me some advice? I also already know that throughout this transition period, I will have to continue cleaning the medium from the roots. What else do I need to know? Also, if any of you have experience with miraclegro ready to use orchid fertilizer spray, where am I supposed to spray it on the plant? Thanks for the help #MiniPhalaenopsisOrchid

Yep. It happened. I bought an orchid. It was MINI and I love mini things, so I had to, bless my little heart. 🥲 🩷 Meet Chims. (Daughter named her.) She may be mini, but she still be mighty. I have no idea what I'm doing, taking care of her, so I am off to do some research and add to my little book of plants. Any tips are appreciated here, as I welcome any advice from orchid owners that know their stuff. ✨ #orchidlovers #orchid #orchidorg #greggang #greggers #happyplants #plantaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy

Winston update for those still interested He is still blooming like a champ and shows no sign of stopping. I will end the Winston Saga at this point, though. The sad little leaf he just produced - and the state of the other leaves - tell a very different story. The setback because of the neglect and the massive trim will be considerable already, so the spike will be cut and put into a vase in the hopes that he will recover - if not fast then a least fast*er*. Let's hope he will be as forgiving and robust as ever.
Care Summary for Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis
Aphrodite's Phalaenopsis
Greg recommends:
0.5 cups every 9 days
< 3ft from a window
Repot after 2x growth
Based on the 4” pot your plant is in, and that it doesn’t get direct sunlight.
What other plant parents say
Avoid listening to watering instructions that recommend ice cubes! They can shock the roots and generally don’t do a good job of providing water. Taking my orchid to my kitchen sink and using the sprayer to throughly soak the bark has worked great for me. Greg’s recommended watering cycle has worked pretty much perfectly for me, so listening to us could be beneficial, though be wary if overwatering regardless. Blooms don’t last forever, so expect a dormancy stage where your orchid may do nothing for a couple months. Highly recommend this plant.
