ÍNDICE

Querida lectora, querido lector,

Saint Michel

I believe that happiness appears where you least expect it!

Last summer when I went to visit my French friend in her small town on the Atlantic coast, I discovered the little everyday things that made you smile every day.

Saint Michel Chef has a small fishermen's beach that smells of saltpeter when you go for a run in the early morning. The fresh wind from the Atlantic wakes you up suddenly and keeps you alert to the song of the seagulls.

You find not only the fishermen doing their work but also families with small children collecting shellfish at low tide.

I went with my daughter who loved bathing every day in the freeze waters of the Atlantic. Her passion was catching waves and wallowing in the sand.

The small town a few minutes from Nantes has many Breton customs and the market smells of butter, salt, fish, flowers…

I thought about all these things and the landscape and they really took my breath away!

3

Niagara Falls

Happiness depends on the place and the people you are with. I went to the Niagara falls three years ago with my husband. We were staying in New York, but we did a day trip to Niagara Falls and this way, enjoying this natural spectacle. But do you think this day trip was worth it?

You must get early; the bus goes out at 4 a.m. and the journey is 7 hours to go and other 7 hours to return. You only stay there 4 or 5 hours. The journey is tiring but from the bus you can see a gorgeous landscape with its typical villages.

When we arrived, the weather was absolutely perfect. It was like a day of spring, but it was autumn. The bus stopped in the bus stop, but from there, we still couldn’t see the waterfalls. We walked a pair of interminable minutes and suddenly, we saw the three waterfalls. While I was gazing up at the water falling and hearing its deafening noise, I felt deeply happy. Was there anything more awesome in the world?

4

Janiculum Walk

I believe that happiness is a short time where you lose track of time.

I was walking alone from Saint Peter to Trastevere where one friend of mine lived in 1999 but I took a steep street and got lost.

The afternoon was sunny and when I was higher the breeze refreshed my thoughts. At the top, I was out of the ancient city of Rome that was spread out like a carpet while in the viewpoint people were laughing and chatting each other, sparrows were chirping and the trees were swaying in the gentle wind.

Then I sat on the parapet and my eyes changed. How can I describe that what I saw? Which were my feelings in that place?

Harmony, fullness, beauty and true.

As if the time had stopped on the top of the world.

Since then, I come back to Rome every year to take a walk on the Janiculum.

He is a normal banker with serious personal problems, since his dear wife cheats him. One day, our protagonist decides to kill his wife and lover, but at the last moment he stops. The next day, the bodies of both lovers lie lifeless, and he is the main suspect. In the trial there is no hope, he ends up sentenced to two life sentences.

This is a beautiful but capricious and selfish young woman. However, she is a brave and hard-working woman when it is necessary. She is married but she doesn`t love her husband because she is in love with a dull man who is married to a kind and generous woman. Finally, her husband decides to abandon her, then she realizes she was wrong, she says: “Iwillthinkofsomewaytobring himback.Afterall, tomorrowis anotherday...”

This person is the perfect example of the “self-made man”. As an ambitious one he becomes very wealthy but he has humble origins. He is very idealistic and generous and his main activity consists of organising glamorous parties, but he rarely turns up. His unique intention is to reconquer a former lover he is head over heels in love with.

Both of them were the kings of evil until a short time later they died together.

He lived in USA during the “Great Depression” so his childhood and adolescence were very hard. Life and fiction are both full of difficult choices. Should you follow your head or your heart? Is it better to risk it all for a dream or play it safe? What to do when faced with the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?

If these are the questions that keep you up at night, we have good news for you:

Aunt Agony, the agony aunt, is here to help!

Dear Aunt Agony,

A great anguish fills me inside. I have a precious ring that transmits its power and its ambition to me. My head knows that I must destroy it before it causes destruction and terror in our World, but my heart is not strong enough to do it...

What should I do?

Sincerely, Small Guy With Big Feet

Dear Small Guy With Big Feet,

I know you have a difficult decision, but if you have a great anguish inside, you should make a decision quickly.

In fact, I think you don´t want to destroy the ring, because it makes you feel powerful and important. But I recommend that you give it to someone you trust and who doesn´t know the powers of the ring, so that they hide it in a safe place.

That way, you will only use it in an emergency, and you don´t need to destroy it.

Sincerely, Aunt Agony

Today when I woke up I discovered that I have a real problem. Every day, I ask my magic mirror: “Who is the most beautiful in the kingdom?” and my mirror always answers: “You are the most beautiful in the kingdom”.

But today when I asked him he answered that there is another person more beautiful than me in the kingdom! And it’s my stepdaughter!

I want to continue being the most beautiful in the kingdom… so, what should I do?

You should accept that time passes for everyone. Outer beauty is not forever, but I’ m sure you’re still the most beautiful inside your heart, where your mirror can’t see you.

However, if this doesn’t comfort you, you should pay for your stepdaughter to take a long trip around the world. She will enjoy it very much and perhaps she won’t return because she will find a handsome man in a kingdom far away.

She will probably stay there with him forever; so you will continue to be the most beautiful in your kingdom without hurting anyone and you will all be happy!

Sincerely,

Hope you enjoy yourself tonight.

Dear Aunt Agony,

I live with my father and my brothers and sister. I was educated by my mother, but she already died. My father is selfish and very controlling, and my big brother is like him. I don’t have a good relationship with them. I also have a sister, a middle brother and a little brother, but our relationship is good and I hold them dear.

I would like to study medicine because I’m interested in the study of life. But my father disagrees because he wants me to study law like him and I don’t think it’s a good idea to dedicate my life to something I don’t like. Also, we argue all the time and I can’t bear him, and I can’t convince him.

What can I do?

Sincerely,

Familiarly Broken.

Hello little Jo,

Dear Familiarly Broken, I´ve carefully read your letter and I have to say, that is a very complicated situation, but also very common. The problem you´re talking about has to be studied well because the better we think about it, the better solution it will have.

First of all, to face the problem, I recommend you think about your father´s situation. He has missed his wife and he has to educate a big family himself and this is much harder than you may think.

I firmily believe that your father wants the best for all you and, perhaps, that´s why he´s wrong because, although you´re a young person, I see that you know perfectly what you want.

In my opinion, you should choose a good moment to arrange a relaxed meal with your father without arguments or reproaches and tell to him what you´re feeling about your future and, although you respect his ideas, you have to choose what you want to study because Medicine is what makes you happy. I´m sure that if you deal your problem in a firm an adult way, he will finally understand you.

Sincerely, Mrs Agony

I understand your problem. You can’t give up on your dream.

Firstly, if I were you, I would send your publications to all possible publishers in the world of different generes. Secondly, if you don’t succeed and don’t want to change your life I would use a pseudonym. It has been used for centuries. And if the problem is the rural environment... sometimes to pursue your dreams you have to give up things. If writing is what you really like, I would think about moving to a big city where there are more opportunities for both men and women.

Good luck!

Aunt Agony

THE SECRET CHARACTER

Who are these two mysterious fictional people?

1. This person is a girl, she is 8 years old, she has a small stature, she has blond hair, big eyes but she is very clever and friendly with a lot of imagination and above all tremendously curious. This character reflects the anxiety and sometimes exaggerated demand of older people towards children. She doesn’t want routines. word after a word after a word is power.

2. This character isn’t a human, it is an animal who appears at the beginning of the book saying that it is too late for his destination. He is a paranoid who lives always focused on his watch. “I’m late” “I’m late”, he doesn’t have time to say “Hello” or “Goodbye”.
