First time at this spot and we were very happy with almost everything we ate.
- the focaccia bread with pistachio pesto ricotta is out of the world. I see why they say best bread in LA
- the tuna crudo was the least favorite. Too strong with the bay leaves and capers combo
- the lemon Tortelli is light and delicious
-the bone marrow potato puree - OMG try a little marrow on the brea
-the branzino is so delicate and wonderfully tasting
-the pistachio ice cream crunch is a must try to cap the dinner off
-the cannoli is pretty good but preferred the ice creamHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ariel M.CA, CA2516Mar 31, 20241 check-in
Finally was able to get a reservation to Antico Nuovo, and it didn't disappoint. To start off, the location was kinda odd, but that's LA for you! Aside from that, I love the ambience of this restaurant. It feels very homey with low lighting, an open kitchen, pots and pans as the restaurant decor, along with lots of vases and simple plants. It was just very comfortable.
Onto the service- incredible. Our waiter was very personable, ran down the menu, and gave suggestions.
To start with the food, of course we had to start with the focaccia along with the whipped ricotta and duck liver pate. This was really good, and surprisingly the second focaccia I've ever had in my life and I would say it's probably number two. It was light, fluffy, and just the right amount of crispy, but smaller than I expected. I'm not a fan of duck liver moose but my mom seemed to love it.. and while I'm also not a fan of cheese, I did enjoy the whipped ricotta, the olive oil and herbs added a lot to the flavor. Our last starter, was the amber jack crudo, and while I also don't like seafood too much, this was yummy! I loved the texture of the crudo and the citrus flavors in this dish were incredible!
To main entrees, we had the papardelle and plin dell' Alta langa. The fresh made pasta was amazing! It's just such a difference when they make it in house. The beef cheek in the papardelle was so soft and flavorful and there was so much of it in the dish! I was surprised! The Alta langa was a whole different level of flavor with a tad splash of sweetness, the dish was just great. The pasta in this dish is stuffed with beef cheek, rabbit, and pancetta- delicious.
Last, of course, you know we had to try an ice cream. We had the honeycomb flavor and it did not disappoint. This is probably the softest ice cream i've ever had. The flavor was light and perfect.
Overall, I really enjoyed this place and can't wait to go back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 367155Mar 28, 2024
We went for a birthday dinner, checking in for our reservation was quick and seamless. Once seated, it did take a little while for our server to get to us. But it was worth the wait because the food was phenomenal. The inside is a small space but spacious, very intimate and enjoyable dinner setting. We didn't order any meats as the portions seemed too large to share for just 2 people so we will have to come back again and try with family!
We started with the focaccia bread and broccoli chicory caesar salad. For our entrees we had the pappardelle and the plin dell' alta langa. For dessert we had the honeycomb ice cream.
FOCACCIA - olive oil, sea salt
4.6/5 Review - The bread was incredible crispy and fluffy at the same time, it was delicious. We have never had focaccia bread like this, we definitely regret not getting one of the many side dip options with it.
BROCCOLI CHICORY CAESAR - broccolini, cabbage, caesar dressing
4.8/5 Review- This was one of the most unique caesar salads we have ever been served. The broccolini instead of lettuce leafs gave it a nice crunchy texture and taste that was fantastic and different. The homemade caesar dressing was also very flavorful and we wished there was a bit more mixed in!
PAPPARDELLE - beef cheek, veal tongue ragu bolognese
4.5/5 Review - We enjoyed the freshness of the pasta, it was really good. The beef ragu was very flavorful and balanced and was my boyfriend's favorite pasta of the night.
PLIN DELL' ALTA LANGA - sugo di arrosto
5/5 Review - My favorite pasta of the night. The pasta was fresh and the sauce was very flavorful! Would definitely recommend this as a must order dish.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 25, 2024
Antico Nuovo truly lived up to the hype. From the moment we entered and our entire visit the staff was kind, friendly, and very attentive. Our server was very personable and eager to answer any questions about the menu or wine list.
The wine list is extensive and impressive and wine is served in beautiful Glasvin glassware which makes the experience truly enjoyable. My husband tried the Italian lager and loved it.
Now to the food:
Pane - do not skip the bread, it is warm, soft, and delicious. We accompanied the bread with the burrata and scallion oil which was savory and delicious and the coppa which was fantastic!
Tortelli - unsure how a dish can be so light yet rich but it was the perfect pasta dish. Savory, lemony, a real treat!
Lamb Shoulder - cooked perfectly, very tender, really fantastic.
Bone Marrow - delicious, a little difficult to get the marrow out of the bone but the potatoes were perfect.
Cannoli - Amazing!
Highly recommend for a fantastic ambiance, amazing food, and friendly service!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 15, 20241 check-in
We came for the Valentines prix fixe menu. Great service and tasty food in an intimate setting.
There is valet parking but we parked on the street. Just pay attention to signs.
Reservations were made via OpenTable. They do call to confirm the day before.
The prix fixe menu is a selection of many of their same regular dishes. The meal is served family style and you pick two appetizers with focaccia bread to start, two pastas, one main entree (with extra $$ for ribs and tomahawk steak), a side, and two desserts.
We liked the bread to start. The ricotta was a great complement. The crudo was tasty though I ate it with the bread like lox!
I liked the pasta, served nice al dente with the bits of meat a nice touch to the more chewy pasta. You can add more Parmesan to top.
We got the ribs. They were good, though the fennel did give a saltier aftertaste. We added the bone marrow potato purée and that was nice and fatty!
The meal ended with their special honeycomb and pistachio crunch ice cream. We liked the honey flavor though the pistachio crunch did end up a bit salty.
A great date night! They didn't have cocktails but a big selection of wines and some beers.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - 889245467Feb 18, 2024
Yummy Italian spot for quality food without being too expensive. Nice ambiance. Beer and wine only!
For food- i recommend:
The ice cream - omg so amazing and flavorful. We got the pistachio and it was good
The focaccia bread - the best I've had, cooked so well
Pastas were amazing as well. Not best I ever had, but great
Do not recommend:
Tuna crudo, weird tasteHelpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Dec 10, 2023
Great place, I think 4 stars is accurate. Quality of everything is very good but the pasta portions are tiny for the price, not sure I've ever had pasta this expensive. Ricotta/lemon pasta was kind of a miss, rabbit pasta was good, neither of them were anything I'd rave about.
Highlights were the Caesar, focaccia was good, chicken was delicious, and the DESERT. Holy smokes the pistachio and the honeycomb ice cream is delish. Especially the pistachio don't miss it.
Good service, ambience and a nice wine list. May come back but not rushing to.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - 61779294Dec 30, 2023
My husband and I came here for our date night, and we loved it all. We got the focaccia, ricotta, pappardelle with beef cheek, lamb chomps, and honey comb ice cream.
The focaccia and ricotta and lamb chops were our favorite. The pappardelle was a little heavy on the salt, but the pasta texture was al dente. The honey comb ice cream was super creamy and the caramel was a good pairing. However they add a layer of olive oil, which threw off the taste for the first few bites.
The servers were very sweet and quick to rotate plates and utensils, very attentive.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
