Pianeta makes their own pasta. Pianeta has great specials. Pianeta is an intimate venue. Pianeta is all if the things that you want in gourmet Itialian food. Cocktails are fabulous. And service is unrivaled.

Here is my story:

Reservation line 2.5 months out. They are not on Open Table or Resy. Someone said they are on Stripe or Podium not sure...

RANT: You can wait for a table OR you can stand in line for one of 14 seats at the bar where you can wine and dine. (OK- can you tell that's what we did?) Was it worth it? Well, the food, service and ambiance was ok BUT there were folk trying to cut into the wait line for the wait line seat at the bar. Now, about this line, it starts to ramp up around 4:30 pm in anticipation of the 5:00 pm door opening. Remember now 14 SEATS!!!! (This couple cuts in the line and ousted another couple., Fortunately, that ousted couple are Truckee residents and chose not to make an issue as they all the days in the world to wait for seat at the bar.. How nice is that? OK Rant DONE

Food was decent. There were 4 of us so we each selected one dish and we shared... so we could taste as many dishes possible. They offer a plate of warm french/sourdough bread with a neat oil and vinager carafe... Meat Balls, Duck, Ravioli, Salad, and oh, let me not forget; we had to try their pizza. All dishes delivered and served well as well as tasted great!

I need to admit though, unless I was organized enough to make a reservation 2.5 months out I doubt I stand in that line again. Too much wait line drama for me.

We used to come here all the time for nice birthday dinners and such but it's been a few years. now it's a $25 deposit per person if you have a group larger than 4. So, if you have one or two people bail for a larger party for a table they were going to sit you at regardless, you have to eat that money? we came on a Tuesday evening in shoulder season, nonetheless. That alone makes me not want to book a reservation here since you can't predict the future. The food was not up to what it used to be either. Pretty bland and subpar for fine dining. it was $500 for a party of 6, two of who didn't even order an entre. The service was great, but probably won't be spending my money here again anytime soon.

Absolutely delicious! The service, food, and drinks were phenomenal! Why not 5 stars, because they dont have high chairs which is a complete bummer since Truckee is a place a lot of families come to visit with their children and don't have child care to go without them. I hope they consider making this change as I would definitely come every time I'm in town if it was more comfortable for children to join.

It's expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I've never had anything I didn't like here, the quality of the food cannot be beat. Sometimes it gets a bit loud and cramped inside, but not usually to the point where you can't hear those at your table easily. The wait staff are knowledgeable about everything on the menu and we've always gotten great service here.

For dinner, we decided to visit Pianeta based on a few recommendations from Hotel staff where we stayed. We did not have a reservation but luckily there was an open table on the second floor tucked away in the corner near the kitchen. At first, when we sat down, I thought it was very warm and had to take off my sweater. As the meal went on, it seemed like a window or door was opened because then it got cool again and the sweater went back on.

Our waitress was nice and provided great service. She was also apologetic about the table to our right that was very loud. They seemed to be shouting at each other instead of talking but we ignored them as best we could.

The food was excellent and a definite highlight of our trip. We started with soup and salad. (Soup for me and Salad for the wife) We had a corn soup that was amazing and the salad was tasty too. We each ordered a pasta dish and were both delighted with our selections. We moved on to dessert and enjoyed that even though I did not have room for it. Everything tasted great and had a nice presentation and the staff was very attentive to us. If you are in the mood for Italian food then you should stop by and try Pianeta while visiting Truckee.

This place was top-notch! Who new fine dining in truckee would be so great. From the warm bread and olives to the ravioli bolognese! A healthy portion of deliciousness, the ravioli and bolognese was excellent. Had leftovers the next day, and it was still as good. The staff, ambiance, and wine selection make this place highly recommendable. Make sure to set a reservation well in advance, especially during the busy seasons.

Pianeta is consistently great! From the time you walk inside and are greeted by the friendly hostess, the restaurant feels comfortable and homey. The food is simply delicious and I like that they keep several mainstay dishes on the menu. Honestly, there's no way to go wrong with a selection but a couple of my favorites are the Chicken Marsala and the Ravioli Bolognese. The Winter Caprese is an absolute must when it's in the menu. All in all a great dining experience and I look forward to another visit.
