Poeta is the sister restaurant to Intero, and I have to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! I even like it more than Intero
Food: 10/10
Tuna Carpaccio: Very fresh, tender pieces of tuna. Slight sour, acidity factor that was refreshing! Good portion size too!
Cappeletti: My favorite dish of the meal! Crab stuffed pasta almost like raviol. The crab was so well seasoned and tender. The dish was perfectly balanced in terms of flavors and texture. The sauce added depth because of the brown butter and the slight squeeze of lemon balanced the dish.
Chicken Milanese: This one I didn't really care for so I would skip this one. The chicken was not tender and almost hard to chew or cut into. It was salty and lightly breaded.
Tiramisu: Standard tiramisu
Service: Great service! Our waiter was very nice and helpful.
Ambiance: I love the vibes. It was cozy and perfect for a date or casual hangout. The lighting was also slightly dimmed and made a very nice mood.
Overall, so far poeta is my favorite Italian restaurant in austin. I would recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kendall H.Far West/Northwest Hills, Austin, TX239989Apr 24, 2024
Overall, not bad and would try it again, but didn't blow my mind as I had hoped.
Server was great, but our entrees took 40+ minutes between ordering and hitting the table (and it was a Tuesday).
The gnocchi and capellini were the real highlights - though the lamb was overstated on the gnocchi. Definitely great pasta dishes all around. The meatballs weren't what we hoped either and we wished they were more traditional Italian flavor - also were a bit too dense.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 10, 2024
Intero has a special place in my heart so I was SO thrilled to see they had opened a sister restaurant Poeta. We went to Poeta 3 times in January and this review is a collection of those experiences.
We ordered a stupid amount of food between those 3 days. The tuna carpaccio was incredible. I could eat this all day, every day and never get sick of it. The arancini is a solid cold weather dish and is surprisingly filling for the size. The cappelletti was my far out favorite pasta dish. It was a little different each time we got it, but it was very good every time. We liked the lamb gnocchi a lot. It was very aromatic and herbaceous, and light on the lamb. However, our friends who went to poeta the next day described it as very heavy and lamb forward. So we sort of picked up that the cooking may have been a little inconsistent since the place was so new. The spaghetti carbonaro is incredibly rich and delicious, and all our friends who tried it really enjoyed it. We also ordered the risotto, Caesar salad, tagliatelle, branzino, the mozzarella, and whipped beans, which were all solid choices. The octopus wasn't great. It was a little tough and chewy. To be fair, it's hard to find a good octopus dish in Austin.
Cocktails are solid here. They make a great espresso martini.
The desserts are amazing, and I'm not a big dessert person. They are absolutely worth getting seeing that some of them are only ~$6. The gelatos and olive oil cake were my favorites. My friends really liked the goat cheese cake, but I found it a bit too heavy for my taste.
Things I was not as big of a fan of: While I liked all the wine I tried here, I do feel like their wine selection had a lot of similar flavor profiles. All the reds I tried were super light bodied and fruit forward, which was delightful but I would have liked more variety to choose from. Since we were here during one of the opening months the menu items were fairly inconsistent. They were consistently delicious, but the flavors and consistency kept changing every time we came back. I'm excited to come back and have dinner here again, and I can re-evaluate if their menu has gotten more stable in a future review.
Overall, this is a super cute date spot we loved the vibe. In comparison to Intero, we found the dishes slightly lighter and less expensive. However, intero still take the lead for best Italian in Austin.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katie M.Northwest Side, San Antonio, TX3269May 1, 2024
I always forget to write reviews, but I visited Poeta this past Sunday & Im still dreaming of it! Every bite was literally PERFECTION. My friend got the meatball panini and I got the spaghetti. We ended up sharing meals because we both fell in love with everything. The hibiscus soda was so refreshing and the service was fast and amazing! The vibes of the place were also so cozy and peaceful it made it make you feel right at home.
I highly recommend giving this place a try. I will definitely be back when in town again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 4, 2024
Had brunch here on a Saturday morning. Loved the atmosphere. Felt like being in Paris. Loved the biscuit with sausage gravy, topped with an egg. My friends had the avocado toast and the fried eggplant. Both looked really good! Definitely returning to try these dishes. Excellent service! We loved our waitress.

Solid brunch spot. We just walked in without any wait. Paperboy down the street had a crazy wait time. The brunch menu here has delicious options.
Food:
Arancini with eggs and lamb and tomato sauce - must order; so tasty
Blue crab cake - very good
Meatball on toast with side of salad - very good
Waffle with ice cream - very goodHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1Dec 21, 2023Previous review4.5 stars
They need to get better sparkling water than ramblers which is just tap water with some fizz. They gave my friend a can of the rambler but didn't offer a glass. Service was a bit weird - the waiter kept messing up the order when he repeated it back to me so I had to keep correcting him.
Food:
Beef tartare - delicious
Beets salad - very good
Gnocchi with lamb - delicious but a bit salty
Mezzalune with crab - very good
Torte with ice cream - ok - Mar 3, 2024
I think I found my new favorite restaurant! Poeta's lovely ambiance, attentive service, and stellar food was everything I look for. Everything was also reasonably priced and portion sizes were great.
I celebrated my birthday dinner here with friends and we were immediately drawn in by the gorgeous decor. It reminds me of a New Orleans style interior meets modern edge, which are the aesthetics I adore. Our server was attentive with ease all while serving during peak Saturday dinner hours without breaking a sweat. And the food - wow, now this was food (especially the pasta) we were all stunned by.
We ordered:
-Grilled Caesar salad
-Tagliatelle
-Cappelletti
-Housemade Meatballs
-Olive oil cake
Everything we ordered was incredible and I highly recommend them. Our favorites that stood out to us were the pastas. The Tagliatelle was heavily mushroom centered so if you love mushrooms like I do, then get this entree. The Cappelletti's flavors of crab blended well with the rich and creamy sauce.
I'm a huge fan and cannot wait to return to try everything else! And it's best to make a reservation in advance - I made our reservation 3 weeks ahead of my birthday and I'm relieved I did, because even then there were barely any reservation slots left.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 25, 2024
My friend and I had a brunch reservation on a Sunday for 11am that I made without a problem a week in advance! So glad we came at this time since the restaurant was packed around 12:30 when we were leaving. They have a cute little patio and the interior is breathtaking. Loved the ambiance, perfect for brunch, date night, really anything!
Our entrées were incredible and definitely worth the price. I loved the unique flavors and texture in my dish, the arancini with lamb and poached eggs. The tomato butter sauce was divine and everything in the dish was perfectly cooked! My friend got the meatball sub which came open faced with a little salad and she said it was good. but wished they had noted it was open faced since it was listed under the panini section and she was hoping for a sandwich.
Finally, We ordered the bomboline of the "sweets" section for brunch and they came out and it was not what we expected after looking at the Instagram and website of the dessert. We decided to dig in any way but were disappointed. It was too heavy and lacked an element of diverse texture or temperature change. Luckily for us, the manager was very attentive and came over promptly after we sent our dessert back. He chatted with us about how we were correct that the bomboline was pictures incorrectly on the website and he apologized and said it's confused (he said he's been asking management to take it down and I agree!) He kindly and promptly sent us a new dessert on the house and "comped" us the other. Our main server was a unwelcoming but it didn't ruin the experience. I will be back since the food was so good and I'll hopefully get a different server next time.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 36190439Feb 10, 20241 check-in
This was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a while. In the words of Beyonce, "Ten, ten, ten across the board", when it comes to the food, anyway.
Passed Poeta while going to Paperboy last weekend and then was looking for a meal before going out for the night and Poeta popped up again so we gave it a try and boy am I glad we did. When you walk into the restaurant, it is sort of split into two sides, one of which is in front of the bar and the other which is a tad more secluded. The decor is to die for and will catch your eye as soon as you enter. The details add even more to the homey feel of this place. Perfectly dim lighting where you don't feel as if you have to pull out your phone flashlight to read the menu.
When we first arrived, we were waiting on one more so not sure if that's why our server paid little attention to us, but he walked by at least twice checking on every table in our section except ours. We even had to have another worker get him for us so that we could at least place a drink order. The food came out fast and he became more attentive as the night went on.
I started off with the 11th street daquiri which is a hibiscus daquiri. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the drink wasn't too sweet or too strong. We got the Arancini with pine nut ragu and parmesan to start. It was a different appetizer and I'm still not really sure how to describe it but it was pretty good! The sauce that it comes a top was flavorful and added a lot to what's essentially a pretty basic rice ball! For my main meal, I had the gnocchi and i fell in LOVE. It had lamb confit, tomato butter, crispy onions, and marjoram. I will say it was my first time having gnocchi so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this meal gave me high hopes. The flavor from the lamb, the crunchiness of the onions, my plate was wiped clean!!!!
Overall, I was beyond impressed, and Poeta has definitely found a returning customer in me.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 29, 2024
Wow, I am in love with this cute little spot. The decor and ambiance was perfect quiet girls night or date night. The wine menu was phenomenal and all the food we had was scrumptious.
Came here with 4 of my gfs and we were able to try a lot of their pasta dishes. The pistachio cream penne and the roast pork spaghetti was *chefs kiss* though every single thing was amazing.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
