The entrance to this restaurant is across from the Conrad hotel lobby. My husband and I dined in for an early dinner on a Friday at around 5pm. We chose to sit outside and saw that there were only 2 other people dining.
The hostess brought us to our table where I noticed bird droppings on all of our chairs. I mentioned this and the comment seemed to be ignored as I looked around to swap out my chair.
We were attended to right away by the server - Joseph. He was great. We ordered the octopus and burrata to start, and burgers for our main entree. The octopus was good, although slightly tough and overcooked in my opinion. The fig burrata salad was delicious. There was some confusion in the kitchen regarding our burgers when they came out. I ordered medium well and my husband ordered it well done without bacon. The gentleman who brought it out seemed to be confused with which burger was cooked to which specification. It did get sorted out though. The burger was not very flavorful but
I wouldn't say it's bad - I just had higher hopes. The French fries were good though.
Our experience here was okay. Not bad but next time I'll probably try out one of the other restaurants in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dana K.Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, CA40172522441Oct 26, 2020
People who love to eat are the best type of people...
We came here on the spur of the moment since everything was closing and we heard they had sushi. My friends love sushi so I decided to roll with it.
The location of this restaurant is perfect if you like ocean views, it's right across from the beach. I believe it's part of the Conrad Hotel but it really shouldn't be. The Conrad hotel was wonderful I just wasn't a huge fan of this restaurant.
The prices are high and they have limited choices and I hate the combination of those two things. I'm a picky eater so I like to have choices. I'm also a pescatarian (I eat shrimp) but mostly vegetarian. We got a credited for some of our food when we checked in but even if the food was free I wouldn't have eaten it. I wasn't impressed with anything. Even the sushi tasted a bit weird to me. The server we had said it was a new menu so maybe that was the problem. They might be doing some experimenting with the menu so maybe they deserve another try.
Pros
Beautiful location
Conrad is wonderful
Service was good
Disadvantages
High prices
Limited food choices
Mediocre taste at best
I probably wouldn't be back unless the menu was different. Hopefully, this menu was just temporary! However, do stay and visit the Conrad hotel! They're amazing!Helpful 25Thanks 0Love this 24Oh no 0 - Dec 6, 2018
A truly delectable dining experience. This lovely restaurant is located at The Conrad Hotel but you don't necessarily have to go into the hotel to get to it. It is right in front of the hotel. Valet Parking is available for only $7.
The restaurant has a beachy upscale vibe without feeling pretentious. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant was not busy as it was a weekday. After looking at the menu, we decided to start with the Snapper Crudo, papaya & mango slaw thai coconut & mint ($16). This dish is on their "Snacks" section of the menu and at $16, needless to say, this is an upscale restaurant, as in pricey!. Nonetheless, the dish was fabulous. We also ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, wasabi cocktail sauce ($22). This was definitely the most disappointing dish. Only 4 medium sized shrimp on top of ice and half a lemon. I would totally skip this dish.
We were brought complimentary warm corn bread with truffle butter and OH MY! was it to die for. It is served in a skillet. What was left, I had to take home with me. For our entrees, we ordered Spiced Duck Breast, ras el hanout, curried lentils ($37) and the Grilled Swordfish, white bean ragout, prosciutto, scampi butter ($34). They were both beautifully plated and cooked to perfection. The sides we ordered were the Truffled Grits & Jus, and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and Bacon ($9 each side). We obviously ordered way too much and not enough. Their menu has so many interesting dishes, we wanted them all. My compliments to Chef Chavez for putting such an incredible menu together.
No dessert this time but I will be back to this wonderful restaurant. Even if it is for the warm corn bread and truffle butter....THAT is worth the trip.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - 7642151144Apr 1, 2018
Long story short: extremely overpriced for what it is.
We came for easter brunch, opted out of the $75 buffet and chose an appetizer and a meal each. At $400ish dollars, we would have ended up getting a better deal out of the buffet.
Upon arrival we had a glass of champagne each (4) and weren't told until afterwards that we had the option of buying the bottle for $45 (the four mimosas were $56).
Oysters were delicious and some of the most clean oysters I've had, they were very fresh and still alive. Colossal shrimp were exactly what you imagine shrimp to be. Tuna crudo was interesting, I liked it.
Lemon poppy pancakes had great texture (i love when the edges and crust are slightly crispy) but overall didn't have too much flavor. Avocado toast was also good.
The lobster hash had barely any lobster in it for the $35 it cost. The side salad was arugula and half a grape... and it didn't have any dressing at all.
I couldn't believe my eyes at how small my portion of steak for the steak and eggs was. Although it was tender, it wasn't hot or even warm. I ordered my eggs over easy because I love runny yolks, but one of my yolks popped and was therefore dry.
Overall, the food was decent but the prices did not represent quantity or quality. The only consolation is that the view is gorgeous and the server was very friendly. He brought us some desserts from the buffet as we waited for our passionfruit tart which was amazing.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 105839826660Oct 30, 2017
Brand new refreshing dining spot on Ft.Lauderdale Beach. It has been awhile since anything new opened up on the Beach on this scale. Located right in front of the Conrad Hotel, Terra Mare has a bright, open and inviting dining room and a beautiful open bar right as you walk in. I had a great feeling from the start.
Goldie, Nancy and I decided to come here after some of our Yelp friends checked in and saw some of the pictures. Everything about Terra Mare makes it stand out from the rest. From the fresh fruit Craft Cocktails to the difference in the culinary preparation of it's meals, it makes it hard to decide what to order, so as you would have it, it offers "small plates" to share, which makes it perfect.
The Craft Cocktails are made with Cold Pressed Juice, no syrups or packaged ingredients.
Starting with their delicious Craft Cocktails, I ordered the Watermelon Mojito because I wanted something quite refreshing and it was. Mixed with fresh Cucumber and Mint, this was different. My wife ordered the Primm's Fizz because she loves Prosecco, and Nancy ordered the Jessica Rabbit. Just the color of that alone makes you thirsty.
The dishes we shared were diverse, because we wanted to taste a little of everything.
If you need proof of creativity, just order the Steamed Mussels in White Wine sauce. The colors and flavors are superb, and I could of just had one for myself I easily could of. The mussels were plump, which is the way I like them. The Nduja Stuffed Dates and the Crispy Pork Belly were fantastic, especially loved the crispiness of the Pork Belly. Loved the Blistered Peppers, a little kick. A must to try is the Polenata Bread, man this was delicious.
I discovered that the best Sea Bass is one with some sort of glaze on it, and at Terra Mare, the Miso Glaze hit the spot. Out of all these dishes, I could of had a full portion as an entree.
I have tried many a Grilled Octopus in many places, but have to say that here, it was a little disappointing: not thick and crispy like most Grilled Octopus I have had. I did make that known to the server, who by the way was great. If you come in, you want to ask for Adrian. He is really refreshing to have served us. Really was all about customer service and a happy guy who loves to smile.
Although, Terra Mare has Entrees and Large Plates, I recommend sharing the Small Plates and Snacks because there are so many wonderful items to get on the menu and 5-6 different dishes is plenty to share with 4 people as most of the dishes have 4 pieces or a bowl enough for 4.
This was one of a couple of my wife's birthday dinners and lo and behold Adrian shows up with an Ice Cream Cart. WOW. A bowl of 3 scoops of your favorite ice cream, and toppings on a cart to chose from all the way from Swedish Fish, marshmallows and hot fudge to mention a few. He just puts on the top whatever you want. The presentation was great, all in glass jars with a glass top, made the cart real colorful. He really poured on the sauce too. That was a great touch, something else I have not seen around town.
Terra Mare has only been open a couple months and most of the time these new places need to get the kinks out, but Adrian and the cooks did not miss a beat tonight. Very satisfied. In fact, all the people who work here are so friendly and warm.
The restaurant is a good size, has a beautiful private room for business meetings or private parties with a big screen TV with beautiful wood floors and comfortable deep chairs.
Being on the beach, they really made the outside roomy and with it's own outside bar. This will definitely be a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with these drinks out on that bar overlooking the ocean. Love the spot, love the food and the way we could share great, creative dishes and WOW, those drinks are definitely refreshing and fresh. I really can't wait to see how Terra Mare progresses. No question a spot to check out.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 2018
I love the staff at Terra Mare. They are so kind, fun, and accommodating! The actual food and drinks were a bust. We ate here for dinner, breakfast, and had drinks a couple of times. We didn't walk away with anything we would order again. I'm sorry! It's a lovely restaurant and the bartenders are awesome.
What we ordered: steak, empanadas, pina colada, mai tai, wine, avocado egg toast, key lime "pie".Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 3, 2017
To be fair, we knew that hitting a newly opened restaurant with a party of 12 might be asking a lot of Terra Mare but it's boat show week and they had a table available. We were seated immediately, our server took our drink orders and water arrived immediately. Unfortunately we waited (and waited) for our drinks. Strangely the one fancy drink, a beautifully presented beet cocktail arrived by a different server in short time while the run of the mill beer, wines and prosecco took closer to 30 minutes.
Our server seemed super stressed and had trouble getting our order, but the food when it arrived, was for the most part really good. I had crispy calamari from the snack menu ($15) which was enough to share 3 between 3 and everyone liked it. Entrees I tasted included the 28 day aged strip steak (really excellent, $48), the roasted sea bass (very good but surprisingly had some bones, $35) and the tagliatelle (good as a filler side dish lovely fresh pasta but light on flavor, $28)
There was confusion with the server which caused several people to think the meals needed sides to be ordered because they didn't come with anything. This was not the case. (Crispy Brussels sprouts and Bacon were quite good and the $9 side is very large)
One complaint, the waiter took away plates people were still eating and at the end of the meal took away a 1/3 of a steak we were saving for a take home snack.
Desserts were uniformly good, the Apple crisp was very good as was the passion fruit liquid gold tart (quite sour but very yummy, $10)
In conclusion, the decor is lovely, some of the food is spectacular (that steak!) and most of the staff is trying really hard to get it right. With some adjustments to the waitstaff and menu this will be a great date night choice I hope. Four stars for the food with the hope of 5 if we go again once they have some time to smooth out the rough edges.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 17, 2019
I'll say the views made it 5 star but the service on a dead Tuesday demoted it to lackluster. Bernard was unenthusiastic, but a warm body who took the order with no real suggestions or tid bits.... I ordered the tuna Appetizer which was seasoned very well with wontons. I ordered the salmon salad which had a nice crispy crust but nothing to really remember. I thought they used iceberg lettuce which turned me off, but the chef came out and clarified that it was butter lettuce. The bed of avocado was nice and fresh. I was feeling for some carbs so I got sweet potato fries which were crunchy, but did not come with a sauce. The moscow mule was just OK. The people watching opportunities, manager Juan and the hostess really saved the day!
